- Provides individual and group education for people with diabetes and their families.
- Educates patients in proper techniques for Self Blood Glucose Monitoring (SMBG).
- Provides dietary counseling for the management of diabetes throughout the lifespan.
- Provides instruction on various types of injectable medications (including insulin), site rotating and sharps disposal.
- Instructs on insulin pumps and Continuous Glucose Monitoring devices.
- Provides medication management for patient under request and supervision of clinic physicians.
- Works in collaboration with others as a member of the multidisciplinary team to provide special advice for people with diabetes.
- Complies with medical records policies regarding the complete and accurate documentation of patient care. Initiates and maintains required records and legal documents.
- Counsels patients, families and significant others about health and illness and promotes health maintenance.
- Evaluates, plans, implements and re-evaluates care plans for persons with diabetes.
- Maintains, collects and updates documents needed to maintain Diabetes Education Recognition from the American Diabetes Association.

- Demonstrated potential ability to perform the essential functions as outlined above.
- Ability to provide care to the population served.
- Demonstrated knowledge of the principles of life span growth and development and the ability to assess data regarding the patient's status and provide care as described in the department's policies and procedures manual.
- Demonstrated clinical competence and in-depth knowledge of specialty area.
- Demonstrated leadership skills.
- Ability to educate patients and their families.

Qualifications
Licenses Required
- Current RQI Healthcare Provider eCredential through the University of Utah Health RQI system. The eCredential is to be obtained within 30 days of hire.
- One of the following Registered Dietitian with the Academy of Nutrition and Dietetics.Current license to practice as a Registered Nurse in the State of Utah, or obtain one within 90 days of hire under the interstate compact if switching residency to State of Utah.
Must maintain current Interstate Compact (multi-state) license if residency is not being changed to Utah.
Qualifications (Preferred)
Preferred
- Certified Diabetes Care and Education Specialist.
- Experience in diabetes education.
