Fox TV Stations owns and operates 29 full power broadcast television stations in the U.S. These include stations located in 14 of the top 15 largest designated market areas, or DMAs, and duopolies in 11 DMAs, including the three largest DMAs (New York, Los Angeles and Chicago).

Of these stations, 18 are affiliated with the FOX Network. In addition to distributing sports, entertainment and syndicated content, our television stations collectively produce approximately 1,200 hours of local news every week.

These stations leverage viewer, distributor and advertiser demand for the FOX Network’s national content.

JOB DESCRIPTION

KTVU FOX 2 is seeking a Director of Engineering who is equal parts personable, detail oriented, and self-motivated with a desire to be part of the station’s best in class team! Duties and Responsibilities :

  • Ensure proper operation and maintenance of on-air product, equipment, and systems in the studio, at the transmitter, and at all remote sites.
  • Oversee preventative and corrective maintenance for all TV systems and equipment.
  • Set Master Control (MCR) and engineering procedures and policies with the approval of VP Engineering.
  • Oversee maintenance of ancillary equipment and operations, including station and transmitter site generators and building systems.
  • Liaison with other departments whose procedures affect our on-air and streaming products.
  • Work with Engineering Manager to maintain daily Engineering, MCR logs, transmitter logs and quality control reports.
  • Address crew concerns and disciplinary issues promptly with the VP of Engineering.
  • Oversee and order equipment parts required for proper maintenance and on-air operation.
  • Assist in keeping Engineers current in their maintenance and operational abilities.
  • Determine priorities for repair part purchasing.
  • Obtain proposals for new equipment and make recommendations for purchases.
  • Manage station capital projects.
  • Assist in FCC compliance.
  • Backup for maintaining FCC license notebook.
  • Coordinate with other departments for proper maintenance of station equipment and scheduling.
  • Purchase expendables for station consumption.
  • Oversee maintenance of remote sites, such as bureaus, and city cameras.
  • Respond to emergencies whenever needed.
  • Demonstrate responsibility for all equipment issued by FOX.
  • Understand and train crew on the operation of station systems including playout automation.
  • Assist with FTS group initiatives as assigned.
  • Maintain professional communication and behavior.

Minimum Requirements :

  • Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in broadcasting, electronics, computer science, or related field, or equivalent combination of education and work-related experience.
  • Five years of progressive experience in broadcast technology, with at least 3 years in a leadership role.
  • Proven track record of successfully leading and managing teams in a fast-paced and dynamic environment.
  • Understanding of and commitment to the requirements of a 24 / 7 / 365 live news operation.
  • Comprehensive understanding of broadcast television production workflows.
  • Strong strategic thinking and creative problem-solving skills.
  • Familiarity with industry standards, regulations, and compliance requirements.
  • Experience in a union environment is preferred.
  • SBE and IT certifications considered a plus.

Pursuant to state and local pay disclosure requirements, the pay range for this role is : $144,000.00-164,000.00 annually for California.

This role is also eligible for various benefits, including medical / dental / vision insurance, a 401(k) plan, paid time off, and other benefits in accordance with applicable plan documents.
