Under general supervision, independently perform skilled work consistent with the automotive industry such as troubleshoot, repair, service and adjust UCDS's fleet of vehicles such as : automobiles, alternative fueled vehicles (electric, hybrid, hydrogen, propane, etc), trucks, vans, scooters, carts, etc.

Inspect and diagnose components and sub systems to determine necessary repairs; make minor to major repairs; fabricate, construct and / or modify new or special components, mechanical, and engine parts as needed.

Install and repair special equipment, machinery and computerized systems used in the maintenance and repair of automotive equipment.

Troubleshoot and repair systems and components; perform minor welding work; estimate the cost of materials and labor for work orders;

and keep simple records and prepare reports as necessary.

Must be able and willing to work occasional overtime as needed.

QUALIFICATIONS

Substantial skills in preventive maintenance, breakdown, repair and trouble shooting of automotive. Ability to effectively identify required parts for vehicle repair, prepare estimates of costs, time and materials.

Experience with technical automotive diagnostic equipment. Including the use of lab top based diagnostic platforms, scanners, emissions analyzers, and other modern diagnostic related equipment.

Ability to inspect and diagnose mechanical and electrical malfunctions and perform a variety of skilled repairs on automotive equipment, components and sub systems.

Demonstrated experience and thorough knowledge of automotive equipment mechanics including electrical systems, brake and engine overhaul procedures.

Working knowledge of applicable State and Federal regulations pertaining to automotive and other power-driven equipment;

including applicable smog regulations.

Excellent organizational skills necessary to independently prioritize workload and meet established deadlines.

Ability to effectively reference, interpret and apply information disseminated from mechanical, electrical and other relevant automotive schematics.

Basic computer skills to add information to computerized vehicle maintenance programs, check email and other relative information available through the Internet.

Ability to promote positive public relations in a customer and safety-driven environment. Excellent interpersonal and communication skills, including the ability to read, write and follow oral instruction in English.

Knowledge of safety practices related to an automotive repair operation.

Skilled in welding. Substantial ability to operate and maintain hand and power tools typically used in the trade.

Ability to operate / drive University trucks & trailers, with a gross vehicle weight up to 11,500 pounds, to retrieve vehicles from both on & off campus

SPECIAL CONDITIONS

Must possess current Class C Driver License, renewable every five years.

Must wear applicable safety wear.

DMV, DOJ and FBI background checks and clearances required prior to employment.

Pay Transparency Act

Annual Full Pay Range : $56,814 - $77,256 (will be prorated if the appointment percentage is less than 100%)

Hourly Equivalent : $27.21 - $37.00

Factors in determining the appropriate compensation for a role include experience, skills, knowledge, abilities, education, licensure and certifications, and other business and organizational needs.

The Hiring Pay Scale referenced in the job posting is the budgeted salary or hourly range that the University reasonably expects to pay for this position.

The Annual Full Pay Range may be broader than what the University anticipates to pay for this position, based on internal equity, budget, and collective bargaining agreements (when applicable).
