Business Unit Manager

The Business Unit Manager will be primarily responsible for the strategic development, growth and overall operational performance of Dewberry in New York, one of the enterprise's most important geographic markets.

Priority will be on building capacity and talent and growing the client base in market segments and service lines : Transportation, Water / Wastewater, Community Facilities, Education, Energy and Building Systems.

The successful candidate will be a Professional Engineer with a diverse engineering background and evidence of strong advancement in management responsibilities.

The candidate will have clearly demonstrated expertise and success in leading and motivating sizeable multi-disciplinary teams, developing and executing client and business development strategies that drive revenue and profit margin growth, and collaborating well with internal and external partners.

The successful candidate will be responsible for identifying opportunities, deploying Dewberry's deep national skillsets and experience to effectively preposition for those opportunities to grow our local practice.

Must have at least 20 years of experience with New York State and City Agencies. The candidate will be primarily responsible for collaborating with our current companywide market segment leadership as well as regional offices to generate an inflow of new projects, while developing and maintaining close professional relationships with client personnel.

Responsibilities

  • Strong leadership skills, goal driven, adept at attracting and developing talent.
  • Comfortable and successful in client and business development, pre-positioning for long term opportunities.
  • Strong network among New York State and New York City agencies.
  • Ability to mobilize, organize and energize cross-functional teams for success in winning and delivering complex projects.
  • Strategic thinker, bringing market-facing ideas and strategies, new service delivery methodologies, and expertise to decision-making and strategic planning.
  • Highly motivated to achieve annual business goals while at the same time investing and building for longer term growth and stability.
  • Sophisticated understanding of the engineering market in New York.
  • High level of comfort being a trusted advisor to infrastructure owners and clients in public and private markets.
  • Interest and ability to leverage Dewberry's national transportation, water, structural and MEP portfolio to grow our local practice.
  • The ability to manage complex projects.
  • Experience with selling and delivering design-build services. Contractor connections are important.
  • Expert communicator, motivator, and influencer.
  • Demonstrated ability to build strong trusting relationships (internal to an organization and external with clients and teaming partners).
  • Active involvement in leadership of industry organizations. Interest and ability to present at conferences and lead teams to participate in brand-elevating activities.
  • Team player and mentor.

Required Skills & Required Experience

  • Minimum 20 years of experience with New York public and private sector clients and projects.
  • Bachelor of Engineering Degree; advanced engineering degree a plus.
  • New York PE license required.
  • 15+ years' experience in project management.
  • Excellent interpersonal skills.

Salary Range

The projected range for this position is $260,000-$350,000 annually. Depending upon other factors, i.e., skills, experience, location, market conditions, the range may vary slightly.
