Salary :
Reporting to the Engineering Manager and working closely with other key stakeholders, the GLE Controls Engineer will perform definition, development, design, analysis, and documentation of control systems and components essential to the completion of key project deliverables related to Global Laser Enrichment’s (GLE, the Company ) first-of-a-kind uranium enrichment technology development program.
The Controls Engineer will be responsible for the design, documentation, and implementation of control systems necessary for new process (enrichment cascade) equipment, gas handling and storage system (GHS) hardware, support systems and other ancillary equipment required for the Company’s technology development and demonstration project.
NOTE : This role is subject to the incumbent’s ability to hold and maintain an NRC Q-clearance, as well as their ongoing ability to maintain nuclear site access.
Roles and Responsibilities :
- Develop and implement current and future control solutions to advance enrichment technology.
- Work with engineering team to plan and select control systems to automate the operation of equipment and systems utilized in the enrichment process.
- Work with technicians to construct and install control systems required to support a safe and efficient operations.
- Responsible for the commissioning and testing of Control Systems, ensuring functional and operational requirements are satisfied.
- Manage the integration of equipment Control Systems into the greater plant control system strategy, ensuring all relevant data is recorded and stored as required for operation and reliability analysis.
- Develop control strategies based on process flow narratives.
- Develop operator HMIs to support operation of equipment and systems utilized in the enrichment process.
- Develop documentation of the selected equipment and systems in a manner suitable to support procurement, fabrication, installation, commissioning and operation.
- Maintain design / test records and Integrated Safety Analysis (ISA) compliance.
Basic Qualifications :
- Active DOE / NRC Q-clearance or equivalent (DOD Top Secret)
- Bachelor’s Degree in Engineering from accredited university or college in a relevant field or equivalent experience.
- Experience with PLC programming
- Familiar with control valves, pressure systems, and field devices (Pressure gauges, thermocouples, flow meters, level sensors).
- Ability to read and interpret P&ID’s
- Experience with Allen-Bradley / Rockwell Automation software (FT View, Studio 5000, RsLogix 500)
- Familiar with industrial Networks (TCP / IP, Ethernet / IP, Modbus TCP / IP, RS-232)
- Proficient at Microsoft Office suite
- Ability to work extended hours on occasion and travel as required
Desired Qualifications :
- Proficiency in control system design utilizing methods such as cascaded control loops, time-proportioned control, and predictive control algorithms.
- Familiar with SCADA systems and data historians.
- Experience with NIST SP800-82 or ISA / IEC 62443
- Proficiency working closely with operators to design and modify high performance HMIs.
- Experience working in classified and / or highly regulated environments
