Basic Job Function
To act as a technical resource and structural engineer for our project execution team, responsible for performing structural and mechanical design, analysis and engineering of Air Cooled Condensers (ACC) for power plants in compliance with the US and International Building Codes.
Required Skills
- Ability to perform static and dynamic design calculation and analysis of steel structures, tanks, and steam exhaust ducting and piping (pipe stress analysis).
- Ability to read and understand plans, specifications, drawings, and documents related to engineering, fabrication, and construction.
- Familiarity with design codes including IBC, AISC, ASME Section VIII, and B31.1.
- Familiarity with AutoCAD and MS Office.
- Knowledge with various engineering software such as STAAD Pro, Caesar II, and PV Elite.
- Great attention to detail and the ability to work collectively with a project team.
Education & Experience
- BS or preferably an MS in Structural or Mechanical Engineering.
- A Professional Engineer (PE) license required
- 10+ years of experience in a similar engineering role.
Responsibilities :
The Lead Structural Engineer is responsible for the complete structural scope of a project from conceptual design to detailed engineering to produce structural documents and specifications for procurement.
Experience in cooling towers and / or air cooled condensers (ACC) a plus.
- Prepares engineering design and arrives at an economical workable design by using the client’s specifications, reports, maps, drawings, aerial photographs and tests on soil composition, terrain, hydrological characteristics, and related topographical and geological data.
- Maintains an up-to-date and organized calculation index. Presents legible calculations understandable to the designer and checker and in accordance with industry-standard calculation procedures.
- Performs manual calculations. Uses STAAD, FEA, and other industry standard tools.
- Back checks the work done by designers, drafters, fabricators, and other engineers.
- Manages subcontract engineering efforts in structural design, duct and duct support design, pipe stress analysis and 3D modeling.
- Follows the structural design through drafting to ensure a clear and accurate presentation.
- Participates in developing new products and the ability to create unique structural designs to satisfy customer’s design and construction needs.
- Works with the other engineering disciplines (mechanical, electrical, instrumentation and controls) to verify the adequacy of structural design.
- Interfaces with clients, suppliers, utility companies, construction personnel, other engineering firms, subcontractors, and vendors in addition to Project Management.
Infrequent travel is required for field inspection of existing and new facilities. Provides support for sales and proposal activities.
Position Requirements :
BS in Civil or Structural Engineering, 10+ years experience in design and / or construction, P.E. license by examination a plus.
Excellent communication and organizational skills.
- Working knowledge of American Standard national design codes, AISC, ASCE, AWS, FEA, and STAAD, preferred. ASME and Caesar Pipe Stress Analysis knowledge is a plus.
- Ability and willingness to assume full responsibility in support of a project, product line, or equipment component, ensure customer compliance, and develop company standards that combine robust and effective technical performance with economic competitiveness.
- Knowledge of fabrication procedures and practices, welding, ASME and AWS Codes, and non-destructive testing / inspection a plus.
