Job Title : Associate Athletic Director for Development
Job Summary : The Associate Athletic Director for Development will play an integral role at an exciting time in the university's evolution and will be a critical leader in shaping efforts towards immediate revenue targets and long-term development capacity.
As a collaborative leader and strong team player, the Associate Athletic Director for Development will be responsible for developing, implementing, and managing the day-to-day activities of the Athletic Development team, which consists of one Assistant Athletic Director for Development.
The Associate Athletic Director for Development will work in close collaboration with colleagues in Development, the Athletic Department, and any / all third-party "Collectives" supporting USF Athletics as a special interest.
Under the direction of the Senior Director, Major Gifts, the Associate Athletics Director for Development is responsible for the management of all advancement activities for the Department of Athletics.
The position will provide strategic oversight to the following advancement programs for athletics : Annual Fund, Major Gifts, Principal Gifts, and Alumni Engagement.
The position will manage and direct the fundraising activities including identifying, cultivating, soliciting, and proposal development and stewardship of donors capable of making gifts above $50,000 with a goal of $500,000 in year one and increasing thereafter.
The successful candidate serves as the lead advancement officer for the Athletic operation during USF's comprehensive campaign, with an emphasis on engaging donors around the department's athletic campaign priorities.
Key Duties and Responsibilities :
65% Major Gifts Fundraising
Identifying, qualifying, cultivating, soliciting, and stewarding a prospect and donor portfolio of 90-110 alumni, parents, and friends for endowed, capital, and planned gifts for athletics, with an emphasis on multi-year gift agreements to ongoing campaign priorities;
makes more than 10 visits per month. Some of these visits will be done jointly with the Athletic Director, athletic coaches, and other development staff.
- Developing new sources for fundraising and revenue, including increases in annual giving from current donors and prospects.
- Working in a coordinated and collaborative effort with Development Staff regarding identification, cultivation, stewardship, and proposal development.
- With the Senior Director of Major Gifts, establishing a five-year strategy to substantially grow contributions at all levels and through all channels to the Department of Athletics.
20% Leadership and Collaboration
- Coordinating all development activity and communication with the Department of Athletics, including Athletics Administration, Ticketing, Communications and Marketing, coaching staff, other executive leaders, and the Director of University Initiatives in the Office of the President.
- Staffing the volunteer AD's Circle board and developing any necessary campaign committees for the Department of Athletics.
15% Additional Duties
- Managing and nurturing the Assistant Athletic Director for Development and the Athletics Development Intern.
- Being an active member of the Department of Athletics staff to be fully integrated into the department, and the department's leadership.
- Being a visible presence at USF Athletics by attending games and any pregame development events.
- Educating and informing community members of existing opportunities to support USF Athletics through third-party "Collectives" benefitting USF Athletics.
- Undertaking special projects related to the campaign and development division as assigned by the Associate Vice President.
Minimum Requirements :
- A minimum of a bachelor's degree with a preference for candidates who have advanced degrees.
- A minimum of 5 years of progressive and successful development experience in major gifts in the higher education arena of athletics, with a preference for candidates who have experience fundraising through a comprehensive campaign.
- Have a passion for collegiate athletics and be able to articulate the role that athletics plays at the university.
- Ability to understand the needs and interests of major / principal donors to develop relationships between them and the University.
- Excellent written and oral communication skills, including demonstrated writing and editing skills in the preparation of proposals.
- Stellar relationship-building skills and ability to build rapport with internal and external stakeholders.
- Commitment to appropriate use of sensitive and confidential constituent data.
- Familiarity with relevant privacy laws.
- Excellent time management and follow-up skills.
- Ability to work well under deadlines and to manage multiple projects simultaneously.
- Ability to work nights and weekends.
- Ability to establish and achieve quantified objectives.
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
- Ability to travel regionally and domestically.
- Must have a valid driver's license.

Pay Rate : Salary
Salary Range : $115,000 - $132,000 annualized; commensurate with experience
