Pilot Plant Supervisor
Hertha Metals is scaling up its revolutionary iron smelting technology. We are looking for a Supervisor to lead iron and steelmaking operations during pilot plant trials and participate in the industrial production of green steel.
You must enjoy working in a fast-paced startup environment where creativity, speed, initiative and cross-functional teamwork are required to succeed.
This position reports to the VP of Engineering.
Key Responsibilities
The Supervisor will oversee the planning, execution, and optimization of our pilot plant operations. The successful candidate will be responsible for ensuring the efficient and safe operation of our pilot plant facility, managing a small team, and coordinating with various departments to drive continuous improvement and innovation.

Plant Operations Management :
Lead day-to-day operations of the pilot plant facility, including equipment setup, maintenance, and troubleshooting.
Develop and implement standard operating procedures (SOPs) to ensure safe and efficient plant operations.
Monitor plant performance metrics and implement corrective actions as needed to achieve production targets and quality standards, as prescribed by the VP of Engineering
Team Leadership :
Supervise a small team of operators and technicians, providing guidance, training, and support to ensure team effectiveness and cohesion.
Foster a culture of safety, quality, and accountability within the team, promoting a positive and collaborative work environment.
Project Coordination :
Work closely with the VP of Engineering to plan and execute pilot plant trials and experiments
Maintain close communications with the VP of Engineering in relation to experiments and other pilot plant operations
Collaborate with cross-functional teams, including R&D, to overcome experimental challenges
Manage project timelines, budgets, and resources effectively to meet project objectives and milestones.
Continuous Improvement :
Identify opportunities for process optimization and cost reduction through data analysis and experimentation.
Implement best practices and innovative solutions to improve plant efficiency, productivity, and product quality.
Regulatory Compliance :
Ensure compliance with all relevant health, safety, and environmental regulations, as well as company policies and procedures.
Work closely with regulatory agencies as needed to maintain necessary permits and certifications.
Requirements :
A high school diploma or equivalent is a minimum requirement for the supervisor.
A degree in a technical field, such as industrial maintenance, metallurgy, engineering or process technology will be preferred.
The supervisor must have a minimum of 5 years working in a smelting environment.
The ability to clearly communicate and present status, action, recommendations, and other technical information at all levels.
Knowledge of smelting process.
Strong safety mindset.
Must have great communication skills.
Certifications & Licenses :
Forklift driving license preferred, but not required.
Hazardous and gas handling training certificates preferred.
Location : on-site at facility in Conroe, Texas just outside of Houston
