The Exploration Geoscientist will work with an integrated team to expand Magnolia’s asset base through exploration. They will utilize geological, geophysical, and market research to develop a portfolio of exploration and redevelopment opportunities.
The successful candidate will apply their skills and use state of the art tools to map, characterize, and risk the key elements of the petroleum system for each prospect area and assist the team in ranking those prospects.

Responsibilities :
- Provide input on the overall direction and focus of the exploration team.
- Utilize well logs, core, seismic, completion, and production data to identify a portfolio of exploration opportunities.
- Provide geoscience products, such as maps, cross sections, and geologic models to characterize and describe the risk associated with each prospects petroleum system elements.
- Identify and propose data collection and assist in the planning and execution of those projects, inclusive of data acquisition or purchases.
- Work with their geoscience team and the reservoir engineer to assess the viability of positive economic outcomes for each prospect or opportunity and rank them.
- Provide guidance on data processing needs, such as log analysis, petrophysical model development, or oversite of core / cuttings preparation and analysis.
- Occasionally support the business development team with asset evaluations.
- Provide input on seismic data acquisition and processing needs.
- Participate in the execution of exploration wells by providing the geologic inputs to the well planning process, operations support, and potentially overseeing geologic data acquisition projects such as logging or coring.
- Have working knowledge of latest drilling / completion practices, technology, and related costs to help leverage in exploration evaluations and ranking.
- Works independently to perform specific geoscience tasks, but often works with Geologists and Engineers in team-setting for greater-team alignment;
multi-disciplinary teamwork and communication is essential.
Qualifications :
- Bachelor’s degree in Geology, or related field of study, required.
- Master’s degree in Geology or related field of study, preferred.
- 15+ years of experience in petroleum exploration, preferred.
- Proficient in standard interpretation software such as Kingdom, Transform, or equivalent.
- Practical understanding of petroleum economics and value of information exercises.
- Proficient in the use of seismic data.
- Extensive Gulf Coast Trend experience highly desired.
