Duties

This is an OPEN CONTINUOUS ANNOUNCEMENT & will remain open until December 31, 2024 or until positions are filled . Eligible applications received will be referred at regular intervals or as additional vacancies occur.

The Section Chief for Allergy & Clinical Immunology provider provides direct expert patient care to these patients. In addition to patient care, this physician may have responsibilities in other areas such as, education and research.

Administrative Duties :

Leadership Responsibilities : Leads subspecialty clinic staff meetings, projects, and policy development and participates in hospital committees and the peer review process.

Demonstrates effective communication to staff and leadership, to include heads up (for acute patient bad outcomes) and issue briefs.

Also, acts as Section Chief in Section Chiefs absence.

  • HR : Maintains VA training requirements, timely completion of documentation and upkeep of credentials required for privileging and re-privileging.
  • Staff Management : Participates in the FPPE / OPPE process. Adheres to employee health requirements. Participates in Clinical Pertinence Reviews (routine medical record reviews).
  • Time / Leave Management : Adheres to Tour of Duties, timely requests for leave in VISTA system and for clinic cancellations.
  • Clinical Management (includes indirect patient care) : Open encounter & open consult management, CPRS documentation rules and requirements, adherence to clinic procedures for patient scheduling & access, ensures staff productivity, oversight of relevant performance measures, and participation in development of new focus on the Medical Home and Patient Centric Care, Utilization, Quality, and Patient Safety oversight, process improvement (system redesign).

Clinical Duties :

Patient Care : Practitioners are expected to provide patient care that is compassionate, appropriate, and effective for the promotion of health, prevention of illness, treatment of disease, and care at the end of life.

Incumbent may provide consultations throughout the Medical Center as required.

  • Medical / Clinical Knowledge : Practitioners are expected to demonstrate knowledge of established and evolving biomedical, clinical and social sciences, and the application of knowledge to patient care and the education of others.
  • Clinical Judgment : To ensure practice-based learning and improvement, practitioners are expected to use scientific evidence and methods to investigate, evaluate, and improve patient care.
  • Interpersonal & Communication Skills : Practitioners are expected to demonstrate interpersonal and communication skills that enable them to establish and maintain professional relationships with patients, families and members of the health care team.

Education :

  • Practitioners are expected to show effectiveness in teaching, monitor and coordinate educational activities, and comply with necessary trainee supervision.
  • Teach house staff, medical students and other health professionals while providing supervisory control and professional direction for specialized diagnostic units in their field of expertise, e.

g., cardiac evaluation, pulmonary function, dialysis, etc.

Supervision of residents is a major duty of this position.

Work Schedule : Monday- Friday, 8 : 00am - 4 : 30pm

Telework : Ad-Hoc (Occasional or Irregular basis)

Qualifications

Podiatrist Basic Requirements :

Education : Degree as a doctor of podiatric medicine, or its equivalent, from a school of podiatric medicine approved by the Secretary of Veterans Affairs.

Approved schools are United States schools of podiatric medicine approved by the Council on Podiatry Education of the American Podiatry Association in the year in which the degree was granted. AND

Residency : Completed, or currently completing, residency training, or its equivalent, approved by the Secretary of Veterans Affairs in an accredited core specialty training program leading to eligibility for board certification.

VA Podiatrists involved in academic training programs may be required to be board certified for faculty status. Approved residencies are : (1) Those approved by the accrediting bodies for graduate medical education, the Council on Podiatric Medical Education, in the list published for the year the residency was completed, or (2) Other residencies and training experiences, or their equivalents, which the local Professional Standards Board determines to have provided an applicant with appropriate professional training. AND

License : Currently hold, or will hold, a full and unrestricted license to practice Podiatry in a State, Territory, or Commonwealth of the United States or in the District of Columbia.

Preferred Experience :

  • ABAI board certified or board eligible
  • At least 1 years' experience in the practice of Allergy and Clinical Immunology
  • Prior supervisory experience or skills in outpatient clinic management
  • Prior experience in training nursing personnel in Allergy clinic nursing skills
  • Physician should be a veteran or have experience working with veterans through training or prior employment.

Education

Applicants must possess a doctor of podiatric medicine degree, or an equivalent degree resulting from a course of education in podiatric medicine and surgery.

The degree must have been obtained from an institution whose accreditation was in place for the year in which the course of study was completed.

1) Approved schools are United States schools of podiatric medicine and surgery, approved by the Council on Podiatric Medical Education of the American Podiatry Medical Association in the year in which the degree was granted.
