The Los Angeles County Department of Health Services (DHS) is the second largest health system in the nation, providing compassionate, quality care through its integrated system of hospitals and community-based clinics.

DEFINITION :
Positions allocable to this class provide specialized consultative services on a per visit basis.
- Performs medical services in a specialized field.
- Provides specialized consultation to other physicians and related professional personnel.
SELECTION REQUIREMENTS :
Completion of a residency approved by an American Specialty Board in one or more specialties* or equivalent training.
Residencies may include :
Preventive Medicine, Internal Medicine, Pediatrics, Dermatology, Family Practice, Neurology, Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation, Psychiatry, Emergency Medicine, Neurosurgery, Thoracic Surgery, OB-GYN, Pathology, General Surgery, ENT, Urology, Ophthalmology, Radiology, Anesthesiology, Orthopedics, Plastic Surgery, Nuclear Medicine.
LICENSE :
California State Physician and Surgeon's Certificate authorized by the Board of Medical Examiners of the State of California.
A valid California Class C Driver License or the ability to utilize an alternative method of transportation when needed to carry out job-related essential functions.
PHYSICAL CLASS II :
Light : Light physical effort which may include occasional light lifting to a 10 pound limit, and some bending, stooping or squatting.
Considerable walking may be involved.
SPECIAL REQUIREMENT INFORMATION :
Equivalent training is defined as that training which the appropriate American Certifying Board formally recognizes in writing as being equivalent.
Equivalent training for appointments to the specialty of Emergency Medicine will be that training and / or experience approved by the Director of Health Services.
EXAMINATION CONTENT :
This examination will consist of an evaluation of training and experience based upon application information weighed 100%.
Candidates must achieve a passing score of 70% or higher on the examination in order to be placed on the eligible register.
ELIGIBILITY INFORMATION :
Applications will be processed on an "as-received" basis and those receiving a passing score will be promulgated to the eligible register accordingly.
VACANCY INFORMATION :
The resulting eligible register will be used to fill vacancies throughout the Department of Health Services as they occur.
SPECIAL INFORMATION :
Appointees may be required to work any shift including evenings, nights, weekends, and holidays.
