Starting pay per hour for Maintenance Worker is 18.40 to 22.08 depending on experience.
Additional 1.25 for ability to demonstrate the operation of Light equipment, demonstrate MUTCD knowledge, and 2 years of experience in field
Additional 1.25 for CDL
Up to an additional $.50 for TDA
Under general supervision, performs unskilled general labor in the maintenance of City streets, drainage system and infrastructure for the Public Works Department;
operates hand and power tools and equipment in accordance with all safety regulations and procedures.
Primary Duties and Responsibilities :
- Performs general manual labor tasks in order to maintain streets, drainage system and infrastructure as assigned; duties may vary according to job assignment and individual skills.
- Performs maintenance and repairs within scope of authority, and in accordance with all safety regulations and procedures;
reports safety hazards, equipment problems and emergency situations.
- Operates and maintains a variety of specialized tools and equipment; assists with maintenance work on tools and equipment.
- Assists in the repair and maintenance of drainage system and roadways; inspects storm drains and drainage ditches; checks manhole covers;
clears trash, brush, weeds and debris; digs and fills holes and maintains slopes; clears and repairs roadway and adjoining areas.
- Learns a variety of work tasks and procedures, including repair and maintenance of streets, roadways, and infrastructure.
- Follows all safety rules and regulations to minimize risk of accidents.
- Responds as directed to perform emergency cleaning and maintenance work.
- Cross trains in all maintenance tasks.
- Responds outside of normally scheduled work hours in response to special events, natural disasters, emergencies, or critical incidents as determined by the City.
- Maintains the integrity, professionalism, values and goals of the City by assuring that all rules and regulations are followed, and that accountability and public trust are preserved.
- Cooperates with co-workers professionally to accomplish work efficiently and effectively.
- Has regular, predictable attendance; attendance is a factor in continued employment with the City.
- Performs other duties as assigned or required.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS :
Education and Experience :
High school diploma or GED equivalent; AND one year of maintenance work experience.
Required Licenses or Certifications :
Must possess a valid Texas Driver’s License.
Required Knowledge of :
- City policies and procedures.
- Occupational hazards and safety precautions.
- Customer service standards and protocols.
Required Skill in :
- Operating and maintaining tools and equipment according to basic operating and safety procedures.
- Performing heavy manual labor including lifting and carrying heavy objects.
- Closely following verbal and written instructions and procedures.
- Establishing and maintaining cooperative working relationships with co-workers.
Physical Demands / Work Environment :
Work is performed indoors and outdoors at work sites throughout the City; required to perform moderate physical work, and lift and carry up to 80 pounds.
