Job Summary :
The 7 / 8 math teacher will be responsible for teaching 7th grade topics in mathematics, focusing on algebra, rational numbers and exponents, proportionality and linear relationships, as well as statistics and probability.
The 7 / 8 math teacher will also be responsible for teaching 8th grade topics in mathematics, focusing on algebra, linear relationships, nonlinear functions, and statistics.
In addition, the 7 / 8 math teacher will help to cultivate a community of inquisitive, math-minded students. The ideal candidate will have a passion for math, as well as an appreciation for young adolescents and their growth and development as critical thinkers.
The successful candidate will demonstrate a commitment to diversity, equity, and inclusion, exemplified in their instructional practice.
Additionally, they will have sound pedagogical skills, highly developed writing and organizational skills, experience teaching math, a growth mindset, positive resolve, follow through, and the desire to build positive and meaningful relationships with students in a manner consistent with our child-centered, integrated, and developmentally appropriate curriculum.
Other duties include advising a group of 7th and 8th grade students; writing student reports; effective communication and collaboration with students, colleagues, and families;
attendance at meetings; and other faculty duties such as recess and lunch supervision.

Core Duties / Responsibilities :
Demonstrate a commitment to diversity, equity, inclusion, and social justice both in their teaching practice and in building relationships with students and other community members
Teach two sections of 7th grade math and two sections of 8th grade math
Attend meetings, proctor recess and lunch duties according to a rotational schedule
Maintain a growth mindset and actively participate in faculty professional development and supervision, including observations and feedback conversations, with support from the Associate Head of School
Regularly review and update curriculum maps in partnership with grade level colleagues and the Associate Head of School
Perform other duties as assigned by the Associate Head of School, such as occasionally chaperoning school events
Supervise and ensure the safety of students at all times
Act as an advisor to 7th and 8th grade students, supporting their academic and social and emotional skills and growth
Required Skills / Abilities :
Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
Proficient with Google Suite or related software
A comprehensive understanding of the field of education and a demonstrated willingness to explore and embrace new pedagogical practices, technologies and developing trends
Exhibit a passion for teaching math to adolescents
Education and Experience :
Prior experience teaching middle school aged children is highly preferred.
Familiarity with Illustrative Math is preferred
Documented prior experience in a classroom / education setting, experience in independent and Quaker schools highly desirable
A bachelor’s degree in a related educational field is required. Advanced degree is preferred but not required
Minimum of 3 years of experience teaching at middle school level
Physical Requirements :
Must be able to lift up to 15 pounds at times.
Moves equipment weighing up to 50 pounds
