JOB SUMMARY : Provides advanced nursing care and physician support during the treatment of pediatric patients. Job Duties : Provides care to infant, child, or adolescent patients in the diagnosis, treatment, and management of medical conditions.
Obtains patient history, screens patients to ensure appropriate physical / mental development, administers immunizations, orders tests or scans, diagnoses illnesses, prescribes medicines and outlines and monitors courses of treatment.
Partners with physicians in the development of care plans, and advises physician in changes of patient status. Assists patients in the management of chronic illnesses and promotes health and wellness.
Performs school or extra-curricular physical examinations. Adjusts nursing care processes as indicated to ensure optimal patient care.
Monitors and ensures accuracy of patient medical records. Experience and Education : Performs work with a high degree of latitude.
Handles the most complex issues. Possesses expert knowledge of subject matter. Requires an advanced degree in nursing (MSN or DNP), RN and NP licensure, and 2 to 4 years of related experience.

Essential Function
1. Clinical Services
a. Provides care to infant, child, or adolescent patients in the diagnosis, treatment, and management of medical conditions.
b. Partners with physicians in the development of care plans, and advises physician in changes of patient status. Assists patients in the management of chronic illnesses and promotes health and wellness.
c. Performs school or extra-curricular physical examinations. Adjusts nursing care processes as indicated to ensure optimal patient care.
Monitors and ensures accuracy of patient medical records.
d. Provides care to infant, child, or adolescent patients in the diagnosis, treatment, and management of medical conditions.
e. Performs procedures as qualified by training, specialty and protocol with supervising physician oversight and approval.
f. Obtains patient history, screens patients to ensure appropriate physical / mental development, administers immunizations, orders tests or scans, diagnoses illnesses, prescribes medicines and outlines and monitors courses of treatment.
g. Performs physical examinations, or those assessments pertinent to the reason for the visit, in order to provide a patient data base and / or basis for a therapeutic or health maintenance plan.
h. Orders appropriate laboratory tests, x-rays, etc. and comparable procedures, under established protocols.
i. Diagnoses and treats common illnesses and injuries under established protocols.
j. Practices in accordance with Mee Memorial Healthcare System’s Medical Staff bylaws and guidelines.
k. Records health, social and other pertinent problems and data in the medical records.
l. Orders routine medications and treatments under established protocols for acutely and chronically ill patients under the supervision of the physician and established protocols.
m. Works with other staff in the establishment, evaluation and monitoring of treatment programs.
n. Follows all policies and procedures (medical and fiscal) when completing medical charts, billing forms and other required paperwork.
o. Reviews protocols and patient care activities with supervising physician annually.
p. Reviews all referrals with supervising physician where appropriate.
q. Participates in quality assurance and utilization review.
2. Quality Focus
a. Maintains high quality by self-monitoring patient care activities, staying up to date in area of specialty / practice and participating in Mee Memorial Healthcare System’s quality improvement programs.
b. Acts as a resource person for triage questions, patient case management, and assessment.
c. Provides staff and patient education as needed.
d. Enhances the professional practice by participation in problem solving with management, nursing and clerical staff.
e. Serves as a member of selected committees as assigned.
f. Notifies management of instrument and / or procedural problems within specified timeframes.
g. Works cooperatively with management and staff to ensure optimum patient flow and to provide that patients are attended in an efficient and timely manner.
