Position Summary
- Provide policy research, analysis, and support for the Albuquerque Community Safety Department (ACS); perform a variety of technical tasks relative to assigned areas of responsibility;
- contribute to development, review and revision of Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) in accordance with local, state and federal laws and regulations;
- stay abreast of current and changes in related policies and procedures in local, state, and federal laws; provide highly responsible and complex administrative support to the ACS leadership;
Work is performed under the direction of the Deputy Director of Policy and Administration.

Minimum Education, Experience And Additional Requirements
Education and experience directly related to the minimum requirements below may be interchangeable on a year for year basis.
Bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university in political science, public administration or economics; and
Five (5) years of public administration or public policy analysis experience.
ADDITIONAL REQUIREMENTS :
Possession of a valid New Mexico Driver's License, or the ability to obtain by date of hire.
Possession of a City Operator's Permit (COP) within six (6) months from date of hire.

- Pertinent Federal, State and local codes, laws and regulations
- Principles of the legislative process
- Principles and practices of policy development and implementation
- Principles of business letter writing and basic report preparation
- Methods and techniques of research, data collection and analysis
- General practices, services and operations of municipalities
- Modern office procedures, methods and equipment including computers
- English usage, spelling, grammar and punctuation
- Current changes and / or developments in applicable federal, state, local laws, and policies and procedures
Preferred Skills & Abilities
- Provide staff assistance and policy analysis support to ACS leadership
- Review, analyze and assess programs, policies and operational needs to make appropriate recommendations for adjustments
- Analyze issues, concerns, and needs to identify alternative solutions, project consequences of proposed actions and make recommendations
- Research, analyze, and evaluate legislative policy options and alternatives
- Interpret and apply Federal, State, and local policies, laws and regulations
- Effectively communicate policies, and / or procedures in a manner easily understood by the customer
- Work effectively with diverse populations
- Operate office equipment including computers and supporting word processing and spreadsheet applications
- Establish and maintain effective working relationships with those contacted in the course of work
- Prepare clear and concise reports
- Perform and maintain quality work while prioritizing and managing multiple deadlines
