Job Description Summary

The Department of Human Development and Child Studies (HDCS) invites applications for a tenure-track, benefits-eligible faculty position at the rank of Assistant Professor or Special Instructor to begin in August 2024.

Candidates will contribute to the education and training of undergraduate and graduate students across the four programs within the Special Education area : Applied Behavior Analysis (ABA), Emotional Impairment (EI), Specific Learning Disability (SLD), and Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD).

Candidates will also contribute to the strong service reputation of HDCS.Duties will include teaching undergraduate and graduate-level courses across the four programs within Special Education.

Candidates must demonstrate potential for teaching across and supporting all four areas. Further, the successful candidate will be able to teach courses within ASD, SLD, and EI within the context of teacher preparation programs.

Candidates must also demonstrate potential for scholarly productivity, as well as a commitment to or experience with diversity initiatives.

The successful candidate is expected to contribute to programs supported by HDCS in conjunction with other Departments in the School of Education and Human Services (e.

g., Master of Arts in Teaching in K 12 Special Education).Please note, for candidates applying to enter as a Special Instructor, more emphasis is placed on teaching and service responsibilities compared to research (e.

g., increased teaching load compared to Assistant Professor). Candidates should clearly indicate in their cover letter their desired position (i.

D., Ed.D., or Psy.D.) in special education or a closely related field (e.g., psychology, school psychology, ABA)· Demonstrated potential for teaching across all four areas within Special Education· Superior interpersonal, organizational, and oral and written communication skills· Evidence of successful university-level teaching (e.

g., graduate teaching assistant, adjunct, etc.)· Research interests that compliment those of the current faculty· Potential to contribute to service initiatives (e.

g., department, school, and university committees)Candidates who are ABD with expected degree completion by the start date of employment will be considered.

Those applicants must include an attestation from their primary dissertation advisor attesting they are on track and will complete all degree requirements by the start date.

Desired Qualifications : · Board Certified Behavior Analyst (BCBA) credential· State certified / licensed teacher with K 12 teaching experience (general and / or special education)· Strong evidence of scholarly productivity in special education or a related area· Potential for extramural funding (e.

g., grants and contracts)· Potential to serve as Verified Course Sequence (VCS) Coordinator for BCaBA and BCBA programs· Demonstrated effectiveness at delivering university-level instruction through in-person and online modalities, as well as synchronous and asynchronous online formats Special Instructions to Applicants Applications will be accepted only online through the Oakland University HR System portal.
