Reporting to the Campus Pastor, the Director of Chapel Worship supports the spiritual life of the College by leading the chapel program.
We seek a pastoral musician who can collaborate with students, faculty, and staff to lead spiritually formative, Christ-centered services of worship and to champion a campus-wide culture of Christian spiritual formation.
This position is a part-time (20 hours / week), 10-month (August May) contract.
The essential duties and responsibilities of this position include but are not limited to the following :
- Leads in planning, coordinating, and executing the College’s twice-weekly, voluntary chapel program, facilitating rehearsals and services that represent Trinity’s interdenominational and intercultural community.
- Leads weekly chapel planning meetings with student Chapel Interns.
- Recruits, develops, and mentors student musicians, liturgists, and worship leaders.
- Supervises student workers for chapel support.
- Supervises student leaders for Outcry, the weekly student-led worship service.
- Assists with preparation for regular celebrations of Communion in chapel.
- Oversees chapel equipment, media, and technology, working closely with the Event Services and Audio-Visual departments.
- Collaborates with the Music Department faculty to incorporate student choral ensembles into chapel worship.
- Plans and leads worship for special services and College ceremonies.
- With the Campus Pastor, shares leadership for monthly Campus Ministries student leadership team meetings.
- Other duties as assigned.
Other qualifications include :
- Christian faith consistent with the Apostles’ and Nicene Creeds, with active participation in a church that affirms these creeds.
- Bachelor’s degree required. Master of Divinity, Master of Music, or related theological master’s degree strongly preferred.
- At least 2 years of experience in collaborative worship planning and leading in a congregational setting.
- Competence and confidence in leading musical worship both vocally and instrumentally.
- Ability to select worship songs based on factors beyond musicality alone.
- Ability to audition, schedule, and lead teams of students and staff members.
- Strong knowledge of music theory and its applications to contemporary worship.
- Functional knowledge of Reformed, evangelical, and global liturgical expressions.
- Fluency in industry tools for worship planning and production.
- Ability to navigate competing theologies of contemporary issues encountered in campus ministry and chapel worship.
- Previous experience recruiting, training, and mentoring college-aged musicians preferred.
- Ordination or ecclesial licensure preferred but not required.
