Description
Assist with the planning and construction of small in house capital projects.
Job Duties
- Assist supervisor with structural design, planning, and layout of projects.
- Obtain cost estimates for materials.
- Measure, mark, and arrange materials to established layout based on blueprints or instructions from supervisor.
- Cut and shape structures, forms, or other fixtures from wood, plastic, fiberglass, or drywall.
- Join materials with the most appropriate nail, screw, staple, or adhesive.
- Install windows and doors.
- Use various hand and power tools to securely build assigned projects.
- Ensure the accuracy of work by checking completed projects with tools such as levels, surveying equipment, or framing squares;
corrects problems as needed.
- Adhere to local building and safety codes and guidelines.
- Perform other related duties as assigned.
Qualifications
- High school diploma or GED.
- Must Possess a Valid Driver's License in the State of Alabama.
- Successful completion of vocational school or technical college or apprenticeship program OR at least three (3) years of experience via on-the-job training.
- Must be able to lift up to 50 lbs.
- Thorough understanding of carpentry principles and methods.
- Ability to read, write, and perform simple arithmetic.
Preferred Qualifications
- Knowledge of methods, occupational hazards, and safety precautions of the trade.
- Ability to exercise tact and discretion with other employees, customers, and the public including reasonable standards of personal appearance.
