The School of Dentistry is looking for a Surgical Assistant to serve in the Periodontics Department. We desire an individual who subscribes to and supports our commitment as stated above.
The successful applicant will bring an expert level of experience to the position and understand the demands of supporting executives in a fast-paced environment.

What you need to know
Proposed Salary : Commensurate based on selected candidates qualifications.
Work Schedule / Location : This is an on-site role with a typical schedule of Monday Friday 8am to 5pm.

Qualifications
Required Education and Experience :
High School graduation or equivalent combination of training and experience.
Two years of related experience in a dental surgical environment or similar hospital setting.
Required Registrations, Certifications, and Licenses :
Registered Dental Assistant (RDA)
CPR certified
Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities :
Ability to multitask and work cooperatively with others
Preferred Qualifications :
Experience in the following settings : operating room, sedation monitoring, medical restraint usage, and four handed dentistry.
Nitrous and radiograph certified.
Hospital credentials and Operating Room credentials
Essential Duties / Tasks :
Patient Care
Receives and seats patients. Coordinates doctor and clinic schedules with patient records.
Prepares patients and assists during dental surgery. Assists with monitoring sedated patients. Provides patient information to families to include post-operative care instructions.
Records pertinent clinic data including blood pressure, pulse, respiratory rate, temperature, and diagnostic aids.
Packages tissue and biopsy specimens and sends to pathology laboratory. Changes dressings, cleans wounds or surgical sites, and removes sutures.
Maintains active inventory of equipment and supplies. Takes routine oral radiographs.
Performs other related duties as assigned.
Administrative Support
Answers all phone calls related to Stomatology
Schedules patch testing
Periodically monitors TAMSOD’s website to make sure patients can find the correct phone number to schedule an appointment
Schedules new patient evaluations and recall appointments initiated through phone and school referral
Prepares a check-out list for use of the Biolase and CO2 lasers make sure tips are available for use
Monitors the clinic schedule to ensure a full and even distribution of patients for the residents
Monitors supplies and equipment used in the Stomatology Clinic, request additional supplies in a timely manner as necessary
Communicates with referring doctors as necessary
Reporting / Assessments
Regularly assess status of the Stomatology Clinic with leadership
Prepares reports for review by Director (final versions due two weeks prior to the end of each semester)
Monitors and manages completion of evaluation forms by residents
Sends biopsy samples for processing (pathology residents to laboratory)
Retrieves pathology reports from department fax machine and deliver to Director; once the reports have been reviewed and signed, they can be scanned and given to residents
Requests samples of dry mouth products and others from companies such as Xerostom, etc.
