Position Summary :

The Director of Communications is responsible for all gallery communications that convey the gallery’s program, its artists, and its message.

The goal of this position is to promote the Regen Projects program and its artists to writers, art critics, art historians, art collectors, curators, and museums both proactively and reactively.

This position owns all publications-related deliverables from writing and placing press releases to developing catalogues and artist books.

This role is also responsible for overseeing a meaningful social media presence that enhances the gallery’s impact by substantially raising its profile to drive both reputation and sales.

Key Duties and Responsibilities :

  • Lead the Communications department consisting of a Communications Manager, Photography and Media Manager, and Assistant Archivist
  • Liaise with gallery artists and artist studios to promote the gallery program
  • Act as the gallery’s spokesperson for press and media inquires
  • Manage and oversee all aspects of press including interviews, as well as photo / video shoots
  • Write, develop, and distribute all exhibition press releases, exhibition related collateral, assets, and materials
  • Research, pitch, and secure substantial media coverage (features, articles, news items, and reviews) across print and digital outlets
  • Cultivate and maintain strong relationships with key art writers, critics, curators, art historians, and journalists to communicate the gallery’s mission, programming, artist initiatives and projects
  • Collaborate with third party venues and institutions on the development and editing of exhibition and event related materials, promotion of artist exhibitions and related programming
  • Oversee growth of social media presence across multiple platforms
  • Oversee all external communications and marketing for content and accuracy, including email blasts, newsletters, announcements, gallery website, online viewing rooms, and other third-party sites
  • Oversee, develop, edit, and manage all publications from conception to distribution to heighten the gallery’s profile
  • Review and edit licensing and reproduction agreements and terms to ensure that gallery artists and their work is protected
  • Draft and develop author agreement letters for both gallery and third-party publications
  • Identify and implement strategic opportunities to heighten the gallery’s profile in digital and print media
  • Oversee exhibition press previews, book fairs, and gallery programming (Artist talks, performances, screenings, book signings, etc.)
  • Oversee gallery bookstore and e-commerce platform
  • Maintain strong relationships with ad sales reps, commercial publishers, editors, book designers, and sales and publicity teams

Desired Skills and Experience :

  • Advanced degree in critical theory, art history, journalism, or related field
  • 5 years experience in art-related communications position

Compensation :

This is a full-time, exempt position. Salary range of $90,000 - $130,000 per year, depending on experience.

Physical Requirements :

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is frequently required to do the following :

Sedentary work that requires primarily sitting and standing.

Work Environment :

  • Typically, indoors in an office type environment
  • Occasional offsite travel required for meetings, events, and exhibition openings
  • After hours and weekend work for exhibitions and art fairs as needed
