General Information :
James Madison University is seeking an Associate Director in the Community Engagement & Volunteer Center (CEVC). The department connects students and faculty with meaningful, community-based experiences to co-create just and sustainable communities.
This senior position provides strategic vision, leadership, support, and training to enhance faculty involvement, develop community partnerships, and implement student leadership and co-curricular programs.

Duties and Responsibilities :
Function and Direction :
Provides vision, leadership, and support for CEVC’s local community engagement programs, including courses, faculty involvement, community partnership development, and other co-curricular programs.
Directs the Community Engagement Coordinating Council and faculty development programs to enhance Community-Engaged Learning.
Directs the development of program goals tied to the University and divisional missions. Acquires, maintains, and contributes to the body of knowledge and expertise that leads to the ongoing improvement of CEVC programs.
Anticipates, identifies, and responds to issues related to the function and future development of the program, including effective budget development, resource management, and liability assessment.
Faculty Development :
Develops and implements programming to support faculty in integrating Community-Engaged Learning through best practices, course development resources, and / or connections to community partners.
Creates and maintains resources that elevate faculty Community-Engaged Learning through workshops, communities of practice, website, and individual consultations.
Supports faculty for student preparation and reflection. Prepares and supports faculty to collaborate with community partner representatives to facilitate their role as community educators.
Staffing, Training, and Development :
Supervises staff focused on community engagement, including assistant director for community partnerships, student coordinators, and faculty liaisons.
Oversees the learning, development, and connection of student coordinators, including fall training, senior convocation, and weekly meetings focused on learning for professional skills, personal growth, and social impact.
Develops learning and networking opportunities for all student leaders involved in CEVC programming.
Assessment and Evaluation :
Initiates and facilitates program evaluation and outcomes assessment, including developing learning outcomes and partnering with staff, faculty members, and community representatives for implementation.
Prepares and maintains reports, data, and presentations.
Communication :
Supports the flow of information with CEVC, JMU, the local community, and additional stakeholders regarding program, departmental and institutional mission, vision, values, goals, policies, issues, and decisions.
Oversee implementation and management of volunteer management software. Coordinates with other CEVC programs to ensure the availability of services, avoid duplication, and maximize opportunity and impact.
Provide information and professional judgment related to student and departmental needs, interests, and issues.
Representation and Development :
Builds and maintains beneficial relationships and partnerships with diverse stakeholders, including faculty, staff, students, community partner representatives, and community members.
Represents CEVC through campus and community meetings and presentations.
