The School of Education maintains an open application for adjunct faculty in the event that staffing needs arise during the academic year.
If you submit an application, it will be considered when openings in your areas of expertise arise during the upcoming academic year.
The School of Education is accepting applications for the 2024 / 2025 academic year .
Responsible to provide excellence in teaching and mentoring through the fulfillment of the mission and strategic goals of the School of Education.
References will be checked upon scheduling interview. What will I do in this position? Essential job responsibilities include but are not limited to :
- Provide supervision of teacher education candidates completing field experiences in cooperating school classrooms. This includes observing candidates, conferencing with candidates and cooperating teachers, and providing constructive feedback for the development of effective teaching skills aligned with research-based practices.
- Communicate accurately and faithfully the views of the School of Education to the school partnership site and the views of the site to the School of Education.
- Maintain regular communication with cooperating teachers, teacher education candidates, the University of Northwestern program coordinators, and the School of Education’s Director of Field Experience.
- Maintain accurate records about the progress of each assigned teacher education candidate.
- Maintain accurate mileage records of school visits.
- Maintain an accurate schedule of school visits being flexible with the weekly needs of cooperating teachers and teacher education candidates.
- Complete all required assessments in a timely manner.
- Ensure that cooperating teachers complete required assessments and assist them with web-based submission as needed.
- Meet with cooperating teachers prior to each experience and provide orientation to the field placement and the roles of the teacher candidate, cooperating teacher and University supervisor.
- Serve as a liaison between the University of Northwestern and the cooperating school site.
- Write letters of recommendation for teacher education candidates completing student teaching.
- Participate in formal goal setting and intervention meetings as applicable to teacher education candidates.
- Participate in student teaching or methods level seminars as requested by the Program Coordinator or Director of Field Experience.
- Build community among teacher education candidates and faculty to facilitate an atmosphere conducive to Christ-centered scholarship and teaching.
- Assist with the annual Appreciation Dinner for cooperating school personnel.

What will it take to succeed in this position? Minimum Education and Experience :
- Bachelor’s degree required; Master’s degree preferred in the area of teacher licensure or comparable preparation.
- Experience in the supervision of teachers preferred.
- Minimum of one year successful teaching experience with children or young adults in grades P-12 is essential.
- Current teaching license or evidence of comparable preparation.
- Continually nurture a personal relationship with Jesus Christ; serve as a consistent witness for Jesus Christ; maintain a kind, Christ-like attitude in dealing with and ministering to people within and outside of Northwestern;
and faithfully uphold and embrace Northwestern’s mission, doctrinal statement, and Declaration of Christian Community.
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities :
- Expertise in working with diverse populations and instructional technology is highly desired.
- Ability to integrate Christian worldview into individual mentoring is required.
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills
- Ability to maintain flexible schedule required
- Ability to secure and maintain a current, valid driver’s license and automobile.
- Ability to navigate to new school sites.
- Understanding of and agreement with Northwestern College’s Responsibilities of Membership and Doctrinal Statement essential
- Able to use technology to facilitate the communication process
- Able to demonstrate situational awareness and respond effectively to emotional and nonverbal communication.
- Able to handle situations involving conflict and be a leader in conflict resolution
- Ability to pass the background check upon hire and periodically throughout the course of employment
