Job Description
Position Summary
The Strategic Business Advisor serves as a Strategic Ally for manufacturing business clients in the accounting and advisory space, working closely with them to achieve their goals.
Strategic Business Advisors work externally with key clients, building and nurturing relationships and heavily participating in business development efforts.
This role also focuses on developing new and unique service offerings and expanding existing services to our clients. The Advisor has knowledge in topics such as production management, LEAN efficiencies, inventory management, ERP systems, market competition, finance, licensing regulations, economics, marketing, risk management, and emerging issues impacting the manufacturing industry.
FLSA Status : Exempt
Required Experience and Education
Ten years of experience in the manufacturing industry is preferred. Experience in private / public industry working with clients in the $1-$100 million in revenues per year range.
Some experience working with clients with revenues up to $500 million preferred. Strong people skills will elevate the success of this professional.
Up front as well as continued training will be provided, and this position will have regular team support but would still have to be self-driven to be successful.
Major Duties and Responsibilities
- Promote the vision, mission, and core values of the firm and support the one firm concept.
- Motivated to meet team goals and objectives without constant supervision.
- Build and maintain knowledge of firm-wide services to effectively cross-service the firm’s expansive client base.
- Meet with clients’ teams to understand the business and operations in order to better service the client.
- Identify potential client performance improvement initiatives and provide support at varying levels as deemed necessary per client.
- Understand and provide oversight of all clients’ financial data.
- Perform various analyses for clients, including but not limited to budgets, forecasts, industry benchmark comparisons as well as special projects such as cost drivers, quality of earnings, and leverage areas.
- Develop and maintain a high level of proficiency in the clients’ software to gather necessary information to effectively assess the performance of the practice’s KPIs.
- Develop relationships to increase the firm’s presence and market share in the manufacturing industry.
- Assist with the training and development of manufacturing team members.
- Conduct industry research calls to stay abreast of emerging industry trends, regulations, and best practices in the manufacturing industry.
- Publish articles, speak at conferences, and participate in industry associations to enhance the firm's reputation as a leader in manufacturing expertise, and lead client spotlight efforts.
- Assist with business development functions including proposal development and prospect meetings.
- Assess and mitigate financial and operational risks for clients.
- Support organizational change initiatives related to adopting new technologies, processes, or service offerings while fostering a culture of innovation, continuous learning, and collaboration within the team.
- Assist in the implementation of new initiatives and ensure smooth transitions for clients and internal teams.
Desired Skills, Abilities and Characteristics
- Possess in-depth knowledge in manufacturing, distribution, and / or wholesale products and services.
- Demonstrates the ability to market and develop / retain profitable engagements / clients.
- ERP proficiency.
- Inventory Management proficiency.
- International tax and multi-state compliance understanding.
- Cost accounting, budgeting, and forecasting experience.
- LEAN or other similar methodologies.
- Understanding of industry regulations and standards.
- Strong project and people management skills.
- Effective communication, decision-making, and presentation skills.
- Exhibits a high degree of job management ability, such as timeliness of work, ability to work within budget, and to bill and collect on projects.
- Demonstrates exemplary business acumen in a professional services environment.
- Proficient with MS Office and accounting and industry-specific software(s).
