Summary
CHS Inc. a $33B global enterprise has an exciting opportunity within our Trading and Risk Management organization. The Director, Business Development and Trading will be responsible for building and executing a competitive global strategic vision for the enterprise trading / risk management activities that connect the North America, South America, and Asia Pacific regional strategies for the Nutrient commodities, including sourcing, position taking, and business development.
This position is located in the Inver Grove Heights, MN office and is aligned to a hybrid work schedule (3 days in office, 2 days remote).
This role will also be required to travel up to 25% to international locations based on business needs.
Responsibilities
- Build the international Nutrient organization, setting the strategy and focus areas for the international team, identifying and building the appropriate infrastructure to add value to the international supply chain, defining growth opportunities and coordinating it with the overall CHS Nutrient strategy.
- Build the enterprise trading risk management strategy of the CHS global NPK products (Nitrogen, phosphates, potash and related nutrients) for Brazil, Europe, and Asia.
- Lead an effective international nutrient team aligned with a one CHS approach to crop nutrients.
- Manage relationships with international companies to develop a competitive global nutrient sourcing strategy.
- Provide information and insights regarding global fertilizer trends in identified regions to the broader team.
- Influence the development of the annual business plan, budget, and forecast for multiple profit centers.
- Provide clear direction regarding department and functional goals and lead a team of international traders. Develop direct reports through sharing knowledge and ideas, providing clear direction of goals and initiating development plans for all reports.
- Manage the risk management goals and objectives for the team to ensure growth.
- Understand the complexity of commodity derivatives and the rules and regulations associated with them to ensure compliant application.
- Provide exceptional customer service via divisional marketing team members or directly to customers.
- Resolve issues and disputes with accounting, transportation, shippers, and buyers.
- Maintain existing customer base and identify, develop, and build new opportunities.
- Lead key initiatives to translate strategy into actions.
- Maintain and promote a strong safety culture and follow all safety policies, procedures, and regulations. Identify and communicate workplace hazards and correct or seek assistance in correcting unsafe actions or conditions.
Minimum Qualifications (required)
- High School diploma or GED.
- 7+ years of experience in business development, commodity risk management, and / or trading.
- Prior leadership experience with progressively advancing level of leadership responsibilities.
Additional Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree preferred in Ag Business, Ag Economics, or other business-related program.
- Proven ability to set strategic objectives and execute against them.
- Profit and Loss (P&L) management experience.
- Experience achieving and exceeding budgeted financial goals.
- Experience conducting market analysis, negotiating, and closing contracts.
Physical Requirements
Travel up to 25% to international locations based on business needs.
