Under the direction of the Chief Medical Officer, the Physician Assistant-Lead / Float offers and provides complete medical services to patients.

The Lead mid-level provider will assist in supervising and providing oversight for all mid-level providers. In addition, the Lead will travel to a variety of sites as needed in the organization.

Job Roles

  • Builds positive relationships, inspires others to perform at a higher level, prepares career development plans and retains an accountable workforce.
  • Coaches and counsels staff and administers appropriate disciplinary action in a timely manner.
  • Completes all required documentation accurately, timely and thoroughly in accordance with department standards and to comply with electronic medical record requirements, including medication reconciliation, finalizing notes, clearing out personal pool, and participating in clinic pool.
  • Develops, reviews and ensures adherence to practice protocols in conjunction with Chief Medical Officer, Chiefs, and Physician Leaders.

Advises Medical Director of mid-level practice law, licensing, and credentialing issues.

  • Follows FHCSD policies and procedures, including (but not limited to), cooperating with the timely submission of credentialing and licensing paperwork;
  • maintaining BLS certification; maintaining CME units based on the requirements of the specifying Board; attending all mandatory meetings;

minimizing incident reports; using resources efficiently and practicing medicine in a cost-effective manner.

  • Maintain FHCSD behavioral standards, including (but not limited to), effective listening and communication skills and respectful interactions with colleagues and patients.
  • Maintains a productivity expectation of 2.4 patients per hour with minimum productivity of 2.2 patients per hour.
  • Maintains satisfactory peer reviews : able to assess medical information including pathophysiology, patient presentation, differential diagnosis, etc.

in order to facilitate health promotion and disease prevention.

  • Meets clinic site and organization needs in a reliable and flexible manner; prioritizes work and makes an effort to adhere to schedule.
  • Participate in Clinical Outcomes Program and work towards meeting organizational targets for all metrics.
  • Participates in administrative duties, including lab reports, charts, and medication refills reviewed and managed appropriately.
  • Participates in continuous improvement activities and ensures appropriate Lean tools (i.e., 5S, A3) are deployed and results are evaluated and / or measured.
  • Participates in quality / performance improvement and leadership initiatives and activities; participates and provides medical leadership on committees assigned by the Medical Director;

provides mid-level leadership to Continuous Quality Improvement.

  • Perform lead duties, including (but not limited to) : Conducting annual performance evaluations for mid-level floats and other mid-level providers as assigned by the Medical Director;
  • advises Medical Director regarding mid-level provider conflicts, concerns and trends; conducts mid-level provider peer reviews for mid-level floats and other mid-level providers as assigned by the Medical Director;

moderates the mid-level quarterly meeting; participates in mid-level hiring, orientation, supervision, mentoring, and clinical / administrative skills development.

  • Performs other duties as assigned.
  • Provides / ensures staff receive all new hire and annual trainings on time.

Education / Certifications / Licenses / Registrations

Ability and means to travel as needed in a timely manner within San Diego County. DRIVER REQUIREMENTS : Requires an active Class C California driver's license, proof of liability insurance at $100,000, on vehicle used.

No more than 2 points in past 12 months; No suspensions in last 2 years for moving violations; No DUI, reckless or felony Driving within 5 years.

No license revocation in 7 years.

  • Completion of Physician Assistant controlled substance education course.
  • Current American Heart Association healthcare provider CPR (BLS), or Advanced Cardiac Life Support, Advanced Trauma Life Support, or Advance Resuscitation Training.
  • Current California Physician Assistant License.
  • DEA license
  • National certification by the NCCPA required.

Experience / Specialized skills (including Language)

  • 1 year experience working with underserved, low-income persons, or homeless persons preferred.
  • 2+ years of experience working in an outpatient clinic setting
  • Ability to work effectively with patients from diverse social, cultural and economic groups.
  • Basic computer literacy ability to comply with department needs and expectations (i.e., electronic medical record documentation).
  • Bilingual (English / Spanish) capabilities strongly desired. Cultural and linguistic sensitivity to populations served required.
  • Demonstrated at minimum 2 years of experience in providing leadership and direction to PA providers.
  • Effective training and coaching skills; ability to drive results and achieve objectives through others.
  • Knowledge of and ability to take a detailed medical history.
  • Must possess a demonstrated commitment to community medicine and to serve homeless and medically underserved families.
  • Working knowledge of California mid-level practice law, licensing and credentialing issues.

In the spirit of pay transparency, we are excited to share the base range for this position, exclusive of fringe benefits or potential bonuses.

$135,000.00 - $165,000.00

If you are hired at Family Health Centers of San Diego, your final base salary compensation will be determined based on factors such as geographic location, jurisdictional requirements, skills, education, and / or experience.

In addition to these factors - we believe in the importance of pay equity and consider internal equity of our current team members as a part of any final offer.

Please keep in mind that the range mentioned above is what we reasonably expect to pay for the role. Hiring at the maximum of the range would not be typical in order to allow for future and continued salary growth.
