As the Senior Program Director of Camping you will be responsible for facilitating summer camp programs, group services and family camp at YMCA Camp Seymour.

If hired, you will operate programs in accordance with policies, procedures, and standards established by the Board of Directors, the Camp and Youth Programs Branch Board of Advisors, and the American Camping Association, under the general supervision of the Camp Executive Director.

Key Responsibilities :

  • Supervise the overall operation of the summer resident, day camp and family camp programs, trips, teen leadership and teen trips programs.
  • Schedule programming and staffing for all outside client groups, family camps, and Challenge Course groups.
  • Ensure that facility and schedule are ready for group use prior to group arrival.
  • Schedule and supervise family camp program staff and group services retreats.
  • Evaluate, plan, develop, implement, and actively participate in quality summer programming consistent with the program goals of YMCA Camp Seymour and the mission of the YMCA of Pierce and Kitsap Counties.
  • Encourage program development and growth for summer camping programs. Develop innovative program thrusts, including collaborations, aimed toward reaching branch goals and objectives.
  • Maintain summer program equipment, supplies, and inventory in satisfactory condition.
  • Provide leadership in coordinating staff and resources before and during American Camping Association accreditation visits.
  • Create, distribute, and summarize all weekend participant evaluations.
  • Lock and unlock buildings and gates to meet the group’s needs and standard operating procedures.
  • Facilitate activity programming, manage / supervise program staff.
  • Provide management and support of challenge course programs, including course and equipment maintenance, training and ensuring safety guidelines are met.

Working with senior group programs director, provide non-summer group use of challenge course.

  • Ensure proper care and use of equipment, including check-in and check-out procedures.
  • Periodically examine condition of equipment and facilities to ensure readiness, cleanliness, and safety; report repair and replacement needs to Facility Manager.
  • Hire, train, and supervise staff and volunteers in assigned areas.
  • Facilitate communication and provide leadership.
  • Review and evaluate staff performance.
  • Review, approve, and submit staff time cards to payroll department per schedule.
  • Track volunteer hours and record appropriately.
  • Schedule shifts and process time off requests for staff.
  • Meet performance measurement by telling the Y story and raising charitable dollars to fulfill our mission.
  • Occasionally may need to plan and participate in programming outdoors.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Qualifications :

  • A minimum of three years of experience directing summer resident camping and / or youth programs, and the demonstrated ability to work with members and staff of all ages.
  • Practical understanding of summer camp programs.
  • Demonstrated skills in fiscal management (budgeting, monitoring, and reporting), summer program development (planning, organization, and implementation), and human resources (training, supervision, and evaluation) are essential.
  • Good verbal and written skills are important.
  • Sensitivity to the needs of families including adults and children.
  • Knowledge of YMCA of Pierce and Kitsap Counties’ Procedures and Policies.
  • Demonstrated professionalism in both attitude and appearance.
  • Positive attitude and previous experience with diverse populations.
  • YMCA Team Leader or Multi-team / Branch Leader certification preferred.
  • Have or commit to obtaining certifications in Basic First Aid, CPR, Lifeguarding.
  • Must be able to pass Background and Reference checks (in accordance with the WA State Fair Chance Act).

  • Able and willing to complete online Child Abuse Prevention training on first day, and other online and in-person training as required.

Compensation : $67,724.80 to $68,724.80 per year, depending on qualifications.

Position type : Full-Time, Exempt position. This is an on-site position with the option of room and board.

Location : YMCA Camp Seymour, Gig Harbor, WA.
