As the Education Outreach Coordinator, you will educate K-12 and early college age students, teachers / faculty, and the broader community about the importance of mineral resources to our society, and the science and engineering around how we obtain those resources.
In this exciting role, you will coordinate opportunities for students, faculty, and volunteers to engage with the public, and create audience-appropriate materials for communicating key concepts.

Duties & Responsibilities
Planning, Coordination, and Communication with internal and external outreach partners and the target communities :
- Meet with Senior Education Outreach Coordinator to discuss goals and coordinate program direction.
- Meet with existing internal outreach partners to share program schedule and content.
- Assist with seeking out new internal outreach partners to extend program’s interdisciplinary outreach capabilities, and to create and expand shared connections with external groups.
- Work with the Senior Education Outreach Coordinator to train external outreach partners in best practices for outreach content creation.
- Create content for the Teacher newsletter about Education and other School communications.
- Assist Senior Education Outreach Coordinator in maintaining regular communication with program stakeholders via newsletters and other communications.
Classroom / Guest Lecture Program and STEM event Participation :
- Work with the Senior Education Outreach Coordinator to travel throughout the state of Arizona to present outreach activities to K 12 classrooms and at STEM Events.
- Assist with training interns and outreach volunteers in presentation techniques, as well as building background knowledge required to effectively present outreach activities to classrooms.
- Work with educators and other groups throughout the state to schedule outreach presentations.
- Assist the Senior Education Outreach Coordinator with coordinating and scheduling interns and outreach volunteers to give presentations to classrooms and groups.
- Collect feedback from outreach presentation participants to improve outreach materials and ensure activities continue to conform to new state science standards as deployed in classrooms.
- Support the Recruitment Outreach Team on materials and topics for joint presentations.
Content Creation in collaboration with the Senior Education Coordinator, content experts, and community members :
- Assist content experts in the creation of new hands-on outreach activities with a focus on interdisciplinary topics related to the school’s goals.
- Assist in the review processes of current content to ensure that it supports program goals.
- Maintain existing and facilitate the creation of new digital content.
- Research state education standards and communicate with educators to ensure that created content can conform to said standards and meet teacher's needs.
Physical / Environmental Requirements
May be required to lift loads of up to 50lbs on an irregular basis.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
- Basic knowledge of, or the ability to quickly obtain knowledge of, mineral resources and the mining life-cycle.
- Knowledge of University policies, procedures, and requirements, or the ability to quickly obtain such knowledge.
- Demonstrated ability to effectively communicate STEM concepts to K-12 learners and young adults.
- Ability to communicate with and present to diverse internal and external constituents on all levels.
- Skill in establishing and maintaining effective and productive working relationships with on-campus and off-campus partners.
- Ability to work on multiple tasks with changing priorities as needed in a fast-paced environment.
- Ability to set priorities, plan, organize, and coordinate multiple activities with varied deadlines.
- Ability to work independently and effectively in teams.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office 365, SharePoint, and Teams.
Minimum Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree or equivalent advanced learning attained through professional level experience required.
- Minimum of 3 years of relevant work experience, or equivalent combination of education and work experience.
- Ability to drive according to the University .
Preferred Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in Geosciences or Mining Engineering or Education.
- STEM outreach program design and / or management experience.
- Experience training, coordinating and managing volunteers.
