Job Summary
Directs surplus inventory day-to-day operations, manages surplus property duties, and leads team. Works closely with the Logistics Manager to coordinate collection and transportation of surplus property, e-waste, and other specialty recycling stream.
Manage sales, reuse, redistribution, donation, repurposing or other means of material diversion. Prepares budgets and performs associated financial duties.
Maintains website and manages external marketing endeavors. Directs layout and organization of sales floor, maintains inventory levels, and ensures proper documentation.
Essential Functions
The Office of Business, Hospitality, and Auxiliary Services is seeking a qualified Manager of Surplus Property to direct surplus inventory day-to-day operations, oversee e-waste, and other speciality recycling streams, manage sales, and help lead the University's sustainability efforts.
Job duties include but are not limited to :
- Manages surplus property surrender, storage, diversion, receipt, inventory, and electronic documentation. Directs surplus inventory day-to-day, including administrative, financial, customer service, marketing, and sales.

- Prepares, verifies, analyzes, and monitors annual department budget; assesses short- and long-term budgetary needs. Ensures daily financial reconciliations.
Prepares budgetary reports.
Supervises staff, including hiring, distributing, and reviewing work, performance reviews, and documenting disciplinary actions and other human resource administration.
Manages work schedules and approves timecards. Provides professional development opportunities.
- Maintains website sales, inventory, and marketing in a timely and accurate manner.
- Manages and coordinates marketing endeavors.
- Directs layout and organization of the sales floor.
- Facilitates and maintains proper inventory levels of all surplus materials.
- Ensures appropriate documentation of all surplus inventory.
- Establishes vendor and non-profit contacts and relationships that assist with processing and diverting surplus property and specialty recycling streams.
- Supports the University of Pittsburgh's overall sustainability and waste diversion initiatives through facilitating and managing specialty recycling programs in coordination with the Office of Sustainability.
