Position Description : Curriculum Specialist (Professional Development)

Reports to : Assistant Superintendent of Academic Services

Classification : Non-exempt, 12-month, Classified Compensation Plan Level 11 (Hourly Base Rate $17.90)

Based on Experience

Essential Functions : The purpose of this position is to provide support to the Academic Services Department; assisting with

compliance requirements such as professional development, data entry, and classroom initiatives. The Curriculum Specialist

will support and assist the department by aiding teachers, coaches and principals with general information and professional

development records..

General Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities :

  • Establishes and maintains productive collaborative relationships with others
  • Provides customer service effectively and efficiently to students, staff, parents, and administration
  • Types and composes correspondence, reports, agendas, minutes, meeting notices, etc.
  • Operates office equipment including a computer with a variety of software related to job requirements
  • Uses effective interpersonal skills including tact, patience, and courtesy
  • Receives, compiles, proofreads, copies, and sends out all materials as instructed
  • Sets up for all professional development workshops as instructed, and helps to coordinate the workshops between all of those involved
  • Initiates logistics of district workshops and departmental meetings that includes room reservations, set-up, supply orders, and notification of events
  • Codes the bills relating to professional development travel and other expenses before presenting them to the Superintendent for approval
  • Compiles, prints, and mails out professional development information
  • Maintains professional development records
  • Registering all administrators, staff members for professional development training and conferences and processing the appropriate paperwork such as requisitions, requesting purchase orders and supplying the purchasing department with the appropriate paperwork for auditors.
  • Requesting price quotes from vendors
  • Comparing price quotes and negotiating with vendors
  • Maintaining documentation on purchase orders, reconciling and completing inventory on materials when items arrive.
  • Ordering supplies for the curriculum department for professional development training and department.
  • Prepares professional development training manuals for onsite training.
  • Creates and maintains maintenance of professional development stipends, E-PAR for board approval, entering into spreadsheet for monitoring.
  • Spelling Bee Coordinator Attended meetings, recruited school site coordinators, held information meetings, made manuals with rules and information for site coordinators, sets-up calendar of dates for events, student transportation to school site, judges, parent invitation, local newspaper and media coverage, etc.

2 Curriculum Specialist (Professional Development)

Sends Principals and Assistant Principals, Leadership Team and other administration staff, notification of important events, meetings, and requests information needed for the Curriculum Department as requested from the Assistant Superintendent of Academic Services

Qualifications :

  • High school diploma or equivalent
  • AA or BA Degree (Preferred)
  • Two to three years in general office work experience (Required)
  • Demonstrates knowledge of correct English grammar and usage
  • Experience with typing, filing, office machines, and computers that include Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Synergy and Accounting experience also helpful
  • Ability to read and interpret documents such as government regulations, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals.
  • Ability to speak effectively before people
  • Ability to add, subtract, multiply and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals.
  • Ability to compute ratio, and percent and to draw and interpret bar graphs.
  • Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out instructions furnished in written, oral and diagram form.
  • Ability to type 50-60 wpm (preferred) with accuracy Other Requirements :
  • While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to sit, talk or hear.
  • The employee occasionally will stand or walk and occasionally drive to other locations.
  • The employee is occasionally required to reach with hands and continuously will repeat the same hand, arm or finger motion many times as in typing.
  • Employee will frequently interact with the public and other staff members. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision.
  • Occasional lifting of 30 pounds may occur.
