General Summary This position is responsible for performing complex accounting activities that facilitate the proper accounting of business unit revenue and cost in addition to providing applicable data analytics and analysis to support operational decision making.
Essential Job Accountabilities Provide accounting support during the month end financial close process including the review of invoices, hourly and salary payroll, equipment profitability, subcontractor / supplier agreements, materials financials, inventory, journal entries, account reconciliations, customers’ credit & collections, and accruals to achieve Company deadlines and Sarbanes-Oxley (SOX) and US Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP) compliance.
Work within the various operational finance functions (payroll, accounts payable, accounts receivable, subcontract / contract administration, material billings, equipment reporting, etc.
to obtain an understanding and mastery of daily, weekly and monthly operational finance tasks and responsibilities. Partner with operations (Construction, Materials, Equipment, Quality, etc.
to leverage Continuous Improvement in analyzing internal processes. Help cross-train personnel on the various operational finance functions to ensure we have adequate backup for all positions.
Perform the timely processing of accounting and job cost information through various systems to ensure internal controls are maintained and weekly / monthly closes and deadlines are met.
Prepare, review, and post journal entries to support the monthly close process. Provide accounting assistance to the business unit for budgeting, forecasting and long-term strategic planning which includes Revenue, Gross Profit and SG&A tracking.
Create, maintain and evaluate financial and statistical models used to support operational decisions. Assist with internal audits of all business functions to ensure that established internal controls are followed to maintain compliance with Granite’s policies and procedures, including all Sarbanes-Oxley requirements.
Review financial reports to ensure the accuracy and clarity of information presented to business unit management. Education Bachelor's degree in Business Administration, Finance, Accounting or related field required.
Work Experience 3-5 years of experience in Budget / Finance, Financial Reporting or Accounting. Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities Knowledge of US generally accepted accounting principles (US GAAP).
Ability to work with and manage a high level of detailed information. Ability to research, retrieve and organize data to prepare reports and financial documentation.
Ability to prioritize and organize work to meet strict deadlines. Communicate effectively in both oral and written form.
Work cooperatively as a team member to accomplish group objectives. Establish and maintain positive working relationships with internal customer base.
Strong interpersonal skills and the ability to interact with all levels of the company, from entry level employees to executive management.
