NATURE OF WORK
This classification involves part-time technical work performing various tasks associated with the operation and maintenance of theater equipment, stage, and audio / visual functions for the City at both indoor and outdoor locations.
- An employee in this position operates, maintains, designs, and installs various theatrical equipment and systems for theaters or performing stages;
- monitors technical performance of those systems; assists with technical theater operations including the box office; prepares bid specifications as needed;
tracks inventory; and helps setup / tear down AV equipment. This position also operates and repairs audiovisual (AV) equipment throughout the City.
Examples of Duties
ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS
- Assists in the technical design, construction, setup, and breakdown of various stage props and related sound / lighting systems.
- Maintains, repairs, monitors, and coordinates the continuous, efficient, and safe operation of stage systems to include : sound systems;
lighting, props, and rigging systems; and video and audio distribution / recording systems including video tape recorders, cameras, audio mixers, test instruments, television monitors, and related equipment.
- Designs, procures, installs, and calibrates stage production and post-production systems.
- Formulates technical requirements and prepares bid specifications for various stages.
- Assists with box office operations.
- Sets-up and breaks-down audio / visual (AV) equipment, both on and off site; repairs AV equipment throughout the City.
- Operates AV equipment for City Commission meetings.
- Operates other equipment such as bucket trucks, scissor lifts, trailers, UTV, etc.
- Tracks equipment inventory.
- Works a flexible schedule including evenings, weekends, and holidays as required; works at various locations indoors and outdoors.
- Performs related work as required.
Requirements
EDUCATION
- Graduation from an accredited high school or possession of G.E.D. equivalency diploma
- PROOF OF THE HIGHEST LEVEL OF COMPLETED EDUCATION MUST BE SUBMITTED AS AN ATTACHMENT WITH APPLICATION . (Applications without attached proof of education will not be processed for consideration.)
EXPERIENCE
- Reasonable experience assisting in managing backstage operations or other aspects of a 300 seat or larger theater or concert hall
- Preferred proficiency with ETC and chauvet lighting equipment and Avolites consoles
NECESSARY SPECIAL QUALIFICATIONS
- Must be able to work flexible schedule, including weekends, evenings and holidays
- Must possess a valid driver’s license with an acceptable driving record.
- Must obtain a valid Florida driver’s license prior to hire.
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS
Physical :
Moderate physical effort required, which may involve some lifting, carrying, pushing and / or pulling of objects and materials up to twenty (50) pounds.
The position requires the ability to walk, stand, and sit for prolonged periods of time kneeling, crouching, reaching and exerting muscles through the use of hand and power tools.
Incumbent must have the ability to effectively operate City vehicles and / or golf carts.
Work Environment :
Work is performed in various environments including standard office, recreational facilities, community theaters and outdoors.
Work hours may vary as needed and may include evenings, weekends and holidays. Tasks are regularly performed with moderate exposure to adverse environmental conditions including inclement weather, severe temperatures and exposure to water.
The position may require travel to various locations in the City of Sunrise area.
Sensory :
The ability to perceive and differentiate visual cues or signals. Tasks require the ability to communicate orally and in writing.
Requires ability to adapt to frequent changes in workload and to adjust priorities quickly as circumstances dictate while completing tasks within established time frames.
It also requires interaction with employees and officials from all City departments / divisions, vendors and the general public.

- Knowledge of the phases of technical stage and theater operations.
- Knowledge of building, maintaining, and inventorying stage props and scenery.
- Knowledge of stage sound / lighting and related rigging systems.
