Guided by department objectives and priorities and with guidance from the Director of Attorney Recruiting, the Manager, Partner Recruiting provides firmwide support for lateral partner and of counsel recruiting, onboarding, and orientation, ensuring a best in class candidate experience.
The Manager will collaborate with firm leadership, the Director of Attorney Recruiting, and the Director of Strategic Growth to ensure partner recruiting processes are operating efficiently and that we are engaging in continuous process improvement.
The Manager will oversee the operation of partner recruiting including interview schedules, due diligence, the offer process, onboarding, and orientation globally.
The Manager will provide regular reports to firm leadership, department chairs and sponsor partners on the progress and success of their pipeline recruiting efforts.
Ensures client service and satisfaction are attained in all areas of position.
Takes responsibility for delighting candidates by managing efficient and welcoming recruitment practices. Drives process improvement to ensure a consistent candidate experience across all geographies.
Ensures recruiting team members have the tools and training for maximum effectiveness.
- Develops and maintains strong relationships with internal and external clients, including attorneys and staff, vendors, service providers, recruiters, etc.
- With the Director of Attorney Recruiting, develops metrics to enable effective reporting to firm leadership as well as to measure success of hiring and retention efforts year over year.
- Serves as a resource to candidates, sponsors and firm leadership in establishing and communicating a clear and consistent candidate evaluation and recruitment process.
- Proactively identifies and implements operational improvements and enhancements to lateral partner recruiting, including the hiring and orientation processes, to promote greater firm wide consistency and administrative efficiencies at local office and firm wide levels.
- Owns functional lateral partner recruitment processes and manages continual enhancements, based on observed changes in business needs, for the Firm’s global recruiting objectives.
- Sets standards for the candidate experience that distinguish us in the market and help us delight top candidates.
- Proactively communicates with internal and external clients to ensure candidate needs are met.
- Regularly reviews client service procedures and standards related to lateral hiring; identifies and implements enhancements to client service.
- Ensures that the recruiting team is clear on the firm marketing message and its consistent communication to candidates.
- Responsible for communicating and implementing lateral partner recruiting client service objectives to all involved local recruiters;
identifies innovative enhancements that impact all the lateral partner recruiting function across the firm; collaborates closely with international offices to ensure consistent communications and processes.
Collaborates closely with Director of Strategic Growth, sponsor partners, and staff, to solicit ideas, to hear and respond to issues, and to ensure consistent application of processes in and among offices.
In collaboration with the Director of Attorney Recruiting, actively brings issues, ideas, developments, etc. to staff teams and firm management.
- Participates on various and inter-departmental project teams that encompass lateral recruiting functions; applies advanced operational management skills to multiple lateral projects and working teams.
- Serves as partner recruiting subject matter expert to Firm administrative departments (i.e., Practice Administration, Learning & Development, Firm Management and Conflicts), regarding lateral partner recruiting policies and industry guidelines.
- In collaboration with the Director of Attorney Recruiting, executes broad projects for and within the function as well as cross-departmental projects and initiatives.
- Identifies, develops, and delivers attorney recruiting training programs or other teaching mechanisms to team members as needed.
- Develops an onboarding and orientation plan for every incoming candidate.
- Schedules pre-arrival calls and meetings.
- Liaises with secretarial team follow up with orientation plan until its completion.
- Liaises with the staff secretarial trainer to ensure consistent skill set and training for lateral partner secretaries.
- Collaborates closely with the Director of Attorney Recruiting to identify, develop, and implement projects that will assist Attorney Recruiting in meeting strategic objectives and in improving processes.
Uses project management practices to develop statement of work, develop consensus on project goals, and deliverables.
- Coordinates and collaborates with other functional areas in the firm to streamline and improve recruiting processes.
- Provides vision for partner recruiting-related projects, including data-driven analysis, goals, and measures of success.
- Evaluates, coaches, mentors, and develops assigned staff; ensures they are knowledgeable and trained on professional and technical matters and provided opportunities to increase their knowledge and skills.
- Collaborates with staff to establish achievable, challenging individual and team goals. Develops skills of team members and provides direction to ensure achievement of client service priorities.
Assists in staffing and organizational planning for team to ensure client service objectives are met.
- Promotes consistency and fairness; maintains open door policy and facilitates opendialog, to include conducting regularly scheduled 1 : 1 meetings.

- Participates in recruiting for department, including drafting position descriptions. Regularly reviews and updates position descriptions for staff.
- Responsible for efficient, effective workflow processes; identifies, assigns, and monitors projects.
- Conducts skills analyses and identifies team training needs.
- Remains current in industry trends in Attorney Recruiting and the legal profession.
- Ensures expertise in technology relevant to the position; proactively uses most current technology to further teamwork, client service, and efficiency.
- Participates on projects that increase the value of services to clients, attorneys, timekeepers and the Firm.
- Consistently promotes and models the Firm's Client Service Principles in leadership, teamwork, work product, and personal interaction.
- Ensures compliance with the Firm's Information Handling Policy, including safeguarding confidential and personal information, and reporting any suspected breach appropriately and immediately.
- Adheres to the Firm's General Safety Practices and any unique safety practices for department and building.
ABOUT YOU
- Bachelor’s degree plus 5-7 years’ experience in law firm attorney recruiting, or equivalent combination of relevant education and experience.
- Previous experience with partner candidates and attorney recruiting processes required.
- Previous supervisory experience across multiple geographies and project management experience preferred.
- Strong sense of accountability, taking ownership over projects and responsibilities and resolving issues proactively.
- Ability to take an assignment from inception to completion with minimal supervision or by following broad guidelines.
- Ability to perceive and analyze problems and to develop responsive solutions.
- Ability to analyze needs and to determine priorities based on business objectives.
- Ability to prepare accurate, highly detailed work product.
- Highly effective communication skills and the ability to build effective internal and external client relationships.
