Description :
Sets up and operates mills, turret lathes, drill presses & broaches to cut specified sizes, shapes, designs to print, and internal / external cylindrical and flat surfaces according to work order specifications.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
- Gathers all necessary tools, collet pads and / or mill vices required for specific work order.
- Sets up various heads for amount of feed, depth of cut, locations of cut, and size of work piece being milled.
- Sets up drill and deburring operations.
- Removes parts from pan, then clamp work pieces in collet.
- Pushes button to run machine’s cycle.
- Removes parts from machine and place back in pan after verifying the dimensions using gauges, calipers and micrometers.
- Keeps all moving parts of milling machine lubricated.
- Refills oil reservoirs when needed.
- Changes dull cutters and drills when necessary.
- Maintains all required records.
- Repetitively sets up and operates broach machines to cut work pieces to proper size and finish.
- Installs broach blades using wrenches.
- Moves controls to set specified depth or cut and ram speed and to start ram that pushes or pulls broach along or through surface of work.
- Verifies conformance of broached work piece to specifications using measuring instruments such as fixed gauges, calipers, and micrometers.
- Changes worn broaches using hand tools.
- Visually inspects condition of tooling for sharpness and other blemishes.
- Dredges chips from reservoir.
- Other duties may be assigned to fit the needs of the business.
Requirements : Education
Education
High school diploma or general education degree (GED).
Experience
At least four months to one year of experience is needed in an equivalent occupation.
Specific Skills / Abilities
Must know how to read and use blueprints and routings, as well as a gage, caliper, or micrometer.
Must continually produce quality parts with a very minimal amount of scrap material.
Must be able to perform set-ups on machines under close to no supervision within 4 to 6 hours.
Systems (hardware, software, computer, etc.)
To perform this job successfully, an individual should be able to use and understand internal software.
PHYSICALDEMANDS
Physical Activities include : climbing, balancing, stooping, kneeling, crouching, crawling, reaching, standing for significant periods of time, walking, pushing, pulling, lifting, picking or pinching, grasping, perceive attributes of objects, conveys with other workers, hearing, and repetitive motions.
Physical Requirements heavy work; exerting up to 100 pounds of force occasionally, and / or up to 50 pounds of force frequently, and / or up to 20 pounds of force constantly to move objects.
WORK ENVIRONMENT
Duties are occasionally performed under conditions such as dust, dirt, heat, cold, and fumes. Duties are frequently performed under noisy conditions.
There is occasional exposure to cuts and abrasions. Observation Acuity standard is the minimum for machine operators; where the inspection of the job is at or within an arm’s reach.
