Description : JOB PURPOSE :

JOB PURPOSE :

Responsible for system clinical leadership, strategic and operational direction and administration and management of employed provider operations in Piedmont Healthcare & Physician Enterprise.

Where appropriate and needed, supports the systemwide development and implementation of the strategic vision and overall direction of anesthesia, including opportunities for system market expansion and growth, acquisitions and efficient and high-quality performance throughout the service line.

This position will report to the Senior Corporate Vice President accountable for Anesthesia, with a dotted line to Physician Enterprise leadership.

The position serves as the senior clinical leader, accountable for the overall development, quality and performance for the anesthesia practices. KEY RESPONSIBILITIES :

1. Provider & StaffManagement

  • Clinical role model and leader of System Anesthesia of the clinical activities and works with entity Peri-operative leadership for maintaining appropriate standards of care appropriate to Anesthesia.
  • Partner with HR and Provider Recruitment for development and implementation of compensation, recruitment and retention strategies.
  • Oversees site medical directors to efficiently manage employed provideroperations.
  • Works closely with site Medical Directors on resolution of provider concerns, patient issues and other operational opportunities.
  • Demonstrates accessibility to the physicians and other leaders, and effectivelyaddresses care and service issues as theyarise.
  • Coordinates activities with and works collaboratively in professional matters related to physician performance with the PE and hospital / ASC leadership teams.
  • Responsible for leading activities among physicians and various designated operating divisions and departments to facilitate the delivery of high-quality patient care and services, while focusing on efficiencyin operations and opportunities.
  • In collaboration with clinical leadership, ensures that patient access is available at thehighest reasonable level.
  • Drives and manages compensation plans in partnership with physician and APP compensation teams.

2. PerformanceManagement

  • Coordinates activities among various designated operating divisions to facilitate deliveryof high-quality patient care and services, while focusing on efficiency in operations and opportunities for costreduction.
  • Leverages complex decision support systems such as productivity, financial, marketand comparative databases to evaluate performance effectiveness and developnew opportunities for growth and optimization.
  • Leads the preparation of annual operating and capital budgets within designated guidelines and routinely monitors progress in achieving overall financialgoals.
  • Reviews ongoing financial and operational reports for budget variances and implements opportunities for improvement.
  • Works closely with respective leaders to assess and improve departmental performance, by providing direction and leadership for utilization and process improvement with respect to patient throughput.
  • Interprets and effectively administers policies in order to carry out organizationalobjectives.
  • Participates as Clinical Governance Council (CGC) administrator or in designated administrative functions.

3. Program Development andImplementation

  • Carries out anesthesia physician practice strategies, policies, and programsas determined by PHC ExecutiveLeadership.
  • Understands local market and has ability to translate business needs intoservice line operationalsolutions.
  • Oversees the coordination of clinical start-up for new practices, whether newlyrecruited or acquired, across the Piedmont system.
  • Partners with the relevant strategic resources within Piedmont Healthcare to develop and implement specific programs, products and services to support the long-range directionfor practiceoperations.
  • Coordinates system standardization of policies, procedures, processes and protocolsfor relevant services in order to create a high-quality, efficient, patient- centered experience across the healthcare system.

4. Communication

  • Keeps corporate service line leadership & hospital / ASC executive leadership abreast of significant operational issues and problems, and formulates recommended actions and solutions.
  • Maintains high visibility - is an approachable, credible leader; understands organizational behavior and serves as a change-agent.
  • Acts as a liaison with System & Physician Enterprise executive teams to clarify clinical rules, structures and policies.
  • Other duties as assigned to support the successful development and operational performance of a systemwide anesthesia service model

  • Possesses strong interpersonal skills (analytical, communication, and organization), andworks effectively with employees, physicians, volunteers, families, and communityleaders.
  • Must have the business acumen and sound judgment to make responsible and strategic decisionsin a complex setting. Ideally, the individual will have a strong understanding of the healthcare systems, physician groups and a broad knowledge of the healthcare industry ingeneral.
  • Training in management principles, practices, and methods isnecessary.
  • Must be accessible and deemed approachable by employees andphysicians.
  • Displays tact, discretion, diplomacy, passion, and a sense of urgency for the work and mission ofthe operation.
  • Innovative pursuit to improving overall process, service and quality of care to patients, includingthe ability to examine and re-engineer operations and procedures, their context within organizational strategy, formulating policy, and develop and implement new strategies andprocedures.
  • Knowledge of continuous quality improvement principles and practices, and of customerservice standards and procedures.
  • Knowledge of current leadership, management, cost control and performance improvementconcepts and practices.
  • Knowledge and experience in matters related to physician recruitment, retention andcompensation.
  • Ability to creatively operate in a team environment, to pay attention to details, and tomulti-task.

MINIMUM EDUCATION REQUIRED :

Doctor Osteopathic Medicine or a Doctor of Medicine degree from a recognized school of medicine and fellowship trained in Anesthesiology.

MINIMUM EXPERIENCEREQUIRED : Ten (10) years of progressively responsible work experience in a senior management position in a medical practice setting, healthcare administration or a closely related field is required.

MINIMUM LICENSURE / CERTIFICATION REQUIRED BY LAW : Board Certified or Eligible by the American Board of AnesthesiologyGeorgia Medical License to Practice Anesthesiology

ADDITIONAL QUALIFICATIONS :

Post-graduate degree in healthcare or business administration preferred. Strong working knowledge of healthcare industry and experience if running complex anesthesiology practice in a multi-hospital system.
