Job Title : Grant Writer

Schedule : 8AM-5PM, Onsite (CEDA Central Office)

Exempt Position

Summary / Objective

The Grant Writer will support the organization’s mission by researching, writing, and submitting proposals to secure funding from foundations, corporations, government agencies, and other potential funders.

This position will focus on developing and maintaining relationships with funders, managing the proposal submission process, and ensuring compliance with grant reporting requirements.

The Grant Writer will work closely with program staff to align funding proposals with organizational priorities and impact.

Essential Functions

  • Research and identify potential grant opportunities that align with the agency’s mission, programs, and strategic priorities.
  • Write compelling and comprehensive grant proposals, including narratives, budgets, and supporting documents, tailored to the specific requirements of each funder.
  • Collaborate with program managers and other staff to gather necessary data, program details, and impact metrics for inclusion in grant proposals.
  • Manage the full lifecycle of grants, from initial proposal to submission, ensuring all deadlines are met.
  • Maintain a grants calendar, tracking submission and reporting deadlines.
  • Prepare and submit required grant reports, ensuring compliance with all grant requirements.
  • Build and maintain relationships with current and prospective funders.
  • Maintain detailed and organized records of all grant submissions, awards, and reports.
  • Assist in the development of funding strategies to support the agency’s goals.
  • Work with finance and program teams to ensure accurate budget creation, expenditure tracking, and reporting for awarded grants.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

  • Strong understanding of grant writing processes, including research, proposal development, and budgeting.
  • Proven track record of successfully securing funding from foundations, corporations, or government agencies.
  • Experience managing the full lifecycle of grants, including reporting and compliance.
  • Excellent written communication skills, with the ability to present complex information clearly and persuasively.
  • Strong research skills to identify potential funding opportunities.
  • Knowledge of nonprofit sector funding, including foundation, corporate, and government grant sources.
  • Ability to work independently and meet strict deadlines.
  • Attention to detail, ensuring accuracy in all written materials and budget documents.
  • Ability to work collaboratively with cross-functional teams and stakeholders.
  • Proficiency with grant management software and Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint).
  • Strong organizational skills with the ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously.
  • Knowledge of community development, social services, or related fields is highly desirable.

Supervisory Responsibility

This position has no supervisory responsibilities.

Position Type / Expected Hours of Work

It is an administrative support level position requiring the exercise of discretion and good judgment and is required to work a full-time work week, as designated by the CEDA Employee Handbook, with periodic longer hours, including potential evenings, weekends, and odd hours.

Required Education and Experience

  • Bachelor’s degree in English, Communications, Public Relations, or a related field.
  • Minimum of 2-4 years of experience in grant writing, preferably within a nonprofit organization.

Preferred Education and Experience

  • Master’s degree in a related field.
  • Familiarity with community action agencies, social services, or anti-poverty programs.
  • Experience working with federal or state government grants.
  • Membership in a professional grant writing association or certification (e.g., Grant Professionals Association).
