Sportable is seeking its next Chief Operating Officer (COO) . This position offers a unique opportunity to provide executive leadership, drive strategic operations, and make a lasting impact in the adaptive sports community.
As the Chief Operating Officer, you will be part of a dynamic organization that directly influences positive change by helping individuals with disabilities participate in sports and recreational activities.
Sportable Overview
Sportable is Central Virginia's premier adaptive sports club ( ). Sportable brings people together to build inclusive communities and provides hope for individuals with disabilities through adaptive sports.
The organization is poised to increase its impact through various programs , events, and advocacy, fostering a culture that is inclusive, kind, and professional.
Responsibilities
- Leadership : The COO will act as a strategic partner alongside the CEO to establish and advance the organization's vision, operational strategy, and recruitment goals.
- Human Resource M anagement : They will oversee successful recruitment, seamless onboarding, ongoing professional development, effective performance evaluation, and strong employee retention.
- Financial Management : The COO will offer guidance and strategic direction to support financial operations, including the annual operating budget, audit, and 990 filing;
as well as 501(c)(3) compliance.
- Community and Stakeholder Engagement : This person will represent the organization to strategic partners and grant funders, which may include state and local government agencies, corporate entities, and others.
- Compliance : The COO will ensure organizational adherence to national and local business regulations and take appropriate measures when needed.
Qualifications
Qualified candidates must have a strong work ethic, be passionate about Sportable's mission and share the values of the organization.
The following qualifications are important :
- Bachelor's degree in business administration, human resources, or similar field.
- A minimum of 10 years of experience in a senior administrative management role, preferably within a nonprofit.
- Strong judgment, analytic reasoning, critical thinking, and problem-solving skills.
- Excellent interpersonal, verbal, and written communication skills.
- Experience with CRMs / databases, Salesforce a plus.
- Fluency in Microsoft Office Suite - Word, Excel, PowerPoint; as well as PowerBI.
This position is on-site with visibility expected in Sportable's internal and external community.
