Job Description
The Utah Geospatial Resource Center (UGRC) seeks an experienced Geospatial Data Coordinator to join our team. As a key member of the team, you will play a pivotal role in overseeing and managing the state's geospatial data catalog (SGID).
In this position, you will collaborate closely with stakeholders, partners, and data providers to enhance Utah's geospatial data infrastructure.
Your responsibilities will include :
Leading and supervising the Data team
Ensuring the quality, accuracy, and accessibility of geospatial data within the SGID
Developing and implementing strategies to improve data collection, management, and dissemination
Collaborating with state agencies, counties, and other organizations (i.e. MPOs) to promote the use of geospatial data
Staying up-to-date on emerging geospatial technologies and best practices
Working closely with the election and 911 communities
Developing Python-based workflows and automation to enhance data collection, aggregation, and quality checks on statewide datasets.
Being innovative and seeking new solutions when collaborating with colleagues and our partners.
The Utah Department of Government Operations (DGO), Division of Technology Services (DTS) is the state’s lead office for information technology.
Located within DTS is the Utah Geospatial Resource Center (UGRC), which serves as the state's office for coordinating map technology.
UGRC plays a crucial role in gathering and providing access to essential datasets across the entire state, including roads, address points, and administrative boundaries.
These datasets are made available to both the public and various government systems.
UGRC is also involved in providing guidance and support for GIS implementations and promoting best practices. Additionally, UGRC specializes in developing and customizing tools, services, and applications tailored to the specific needs of government entities at various levels across the state.
This position is currently a hybrid of both in-office and telework days (two days a week in office required) . The office location is at 4315 S 2700 W, Taylorsville.
Please note, a position's eligibility for telework is established by agency management and is subject to change at their discretion at any time and for any reason.
This job may be filled at either of the levels listed below. (Rate as listed or in accordance with DHRM Rules for current state employees.)
- Information Technology Analyst III, $40.58-$68.97 per hour
- Information Technology Analyst II, $34.23-$58.18 per hour

Health Insurance - Public Employee Health Program (PEHP) :

Retirement - Utah Retirement Systems (URS) :
Employees hired on or after than 7 / 1 / 2011 and have never been in the URS retirement system have two options for retirement in the Tier II System.
Employer contributions to your 401(k) are vested after four years.
- Employees who have any service credit with an employer covered by the Utah Retirement Systems prior to 7 / 1 / 2011 are in Tier I Public Employees System.
- Tier 2 Hybrid Retirement System. Employer contributes an amount equal to 10% of your salary between both plans (pension and 401(k))
- Tier 2 Defined Contribution Plan. Employer contributes an amount equal to 10% of your salary to a 401(k) plan only.
- Employees who have any service credit with an employer covered by the Utah Retirement Systems prior to 7 / 1 / 2011 are in Tier I Public Employees System.
Paid Time Off :
- Annual leave and sick leave are accrued at 4 hours per pay period each (4 hours annual, 4 hours sick).
- Annual leave increases with years of service.
- There are also 12 paid holidays

Minimum Qualifications
Qualifications and Expertise
Bachelor's degree in Geography, GIS, Computer Science, or a related field or work experience equivalent
Proven experience in geospatial data management and analysis
Strong leadership and supervisory skills (3+ years experience)
Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
Proficiency in GIS software (e.g., ArcGIS)
Knowledge of geospatial data standards and best practices
Preferred Experience
ArcGIS Enterprise Portal and Distributed Collaboration
ArcGIS Online Partered Collaboration
OpenStreetMap (OSM)
GitHub Projects
Familiarity with transportation and 911 datasets
Experience with data governance
Familiarity with the ServiceNow platform
Experience with Python and the ESRI ArcPy library
