Job Title : Director of Nursing (DON) - Long-Term Care

Location : East Lansing, MI

Compensation : $105,000 - $120,000 Annually

Sign-On Bonus : $10,000

Summary :

We are actively seeking an experienced and detail-oriented Director of Nursing (DON) to lead the operations of our Long-Term Care facility in East Lansing, MI.

The DON will oversee all aspects of nursing services, ensuring the delivery of high-quality, compassionate care to residents while maintaining compliance with federal and state regulations.

This leadership role is integral to fostering a culture of excellence, teamwork, and resident-centered care. The ideal candidate will have at least 3 years of leadership experience in long-term care or a similar setting and will be skilled in managing clinical staff, operations, and regulatory compliance.

Responsibilities :

  • Leadership & Management : Provide oversight and direction to the nursing department, including managing nursing staff, setting expectations, and ensuring compliance with facility policies and healthcare regulations.
  • Clinical Oversight : Ensure the highest standard of nursing care is delivered to residents by leading clinical decision-making, overseeing care plans, and ensuring all nursing practices follow evidence-based guidelines.
  • Staff Development : Recruit, train, and mentor nursing staff, promoting professional growth and development. Conduct performance evaluations, manage scheduling, and ensure staff coverage meets resident needs.
  • Regulatory Compliance : Ensure compliance with all federal, state, and local regulations, including the Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services (CMS) and Michigan Department of Health and Human Services (MDHHS) standards.

Participate in audits, inspections, and surveys to maintain quality and compliance.

Resident Care Management : Oversee individualized care plans for residents, ensuring that they are comprehensive and updated regularly.

Work closely with interdisciplinary teams to ensure the holistic care of residents.

Quality Improvement : Lead the development and implementation of quality improvement initiatives to enhance resident outcomes and nursing care efficiency.

Track key performance indicators (KPIs), identify areas for improvement, and implement corrective actions.

Budget Management : Assist in managing the nursing department’s budget, including staffing, supplies, and equipment procurement.

Ensure the department operates efficiently while maintaining high standards of care.

Crisis Management : Provide leadership in emergency situations, ensuring the safety and well-being of residents and staff during incidents such as medical emergencies or natural disasters.

Qualifications :

  • Bachelor’s degree in Nursing (BSN) required; Master’s degree in Nursing (MSN) or Healthcare Administration (MHA) preferred.
  • Active Registered Nurse (RN) license in the state of Michigan.
  • Minimum of 3 years of nursing leadership experience in a long-term care, skilled nursing, or rehabilitation facility.
  • In-depth knowledge of nursing practices, long-term care regulations (including CMS guidelines), and healthcare quality standards.
  • Experience in staff management, including recruitment, training, performance evaluations, and scheduling.
  • Strong knowledge of quality improvement processes and ability to implement initiatives to enhance care quality and efficiency.

Work Environment :

  • The Director of Nursing will work in a long-term care facility, interacting with residents, families, and a multidisciplinary healthcare team.
  • This position requires physical activity, including walking, standing, and occasional lifting of equipment or assisting residents.
  • A Monday through Friday work schedule, with a provider emergency on-call rotation.
