SUMMARY OF JOB RESPONSIBILITIES :
The Surgery Coordinator is responsible for the patient surgery process from their preoperative visit until surgery and to perform all other duties assigned.
EDUCATION :
- High school diploma required; Graduate of a Certified Medical Assistant Program preferred
- Basic mathematical skills
- Preferred but not required : CPR (lifesaver) certified; Current Medical Laboratory Assistant License
- Ability to read, write, and speak intelligible English;
- Ability to communicate with patient, family, peers and medical personnel
- Requires emotional stability and resilience.
- Must be adaptable to change and receptive to delegated responsibilities
EXPERIENCE :
- Experience in providing direct patient care. Physician office setting desirable
- Computer literacy
- Previous experience working in certain specialty areas may be desirable
JOB DUTIES :
- Keeps patients informed of their surgery process from their preoperative visit to surgery
- Schedule all surgeries and send all necessary documents to hospital admissions where surgery is to be performed.
- Coordinates care with precert staff.
- Obtains surgery clearance from PCP when needed.
- Answer calls from patients concerning status of surgery process in a timely manner
- Scans and documents all correspondence in EMR system.
- Communicate effectively with provider and clinical staff.
- Prioritizes and completes all work in an effective manner.
- Assists Medical Assistants as needed.
- Performs other job duties as assigned.
