Job Summary :

The Optical System Engineer will be responsible for developing sensor technology, particularly in the field of optical system-based detection.

The role involves productizing optical sensing technologies, designing and implementing sensor systems, and working with multi-disciplinary engineering team.

Essential duties and responsibilities :

  • sensor development within a cross functional team to strategize and plan for the transition from prototype to shippable product.
  • a wide range of optical engineering tasks at the system and subsystem levels.

  • and debug prototypes, drive alpha & beta tests and product release.
  • prototype, test, and refine optical systems in support of continuous improvement of optical systems.
  • optical testing and analysis methods for ensuring consistent performance.
  • ever working hybrid model (from home, or offsite location), must be able to travel to LWS office when requested if any company needs arise.

Required Skills / Abilities :

  • Expertise in optical based sensors technologies to detect in aerosols and liquid mediums.
  • Strong background in analytical spectroscopy (UV / Visible / NIR / IR absorption, fluorescence, Raman, etc.).
  • Ability to model electro-optical systems, preferably Zmax.
  • Strong optical troubleshooting skills
  • Hands on experience working with benchtop prototyping optical systems as well as product level optical systems.
  • Developing instrumentation equipment

Supervisory Responsibilities :

  • No direct reports
  • Manage collaborations with academic and industrial partners.

Travel :

Periodic travel based on project to other LWS offices.

Education and Experience :

  • A B.S or M.S. in physics, optical science, engineering, or a related discipline
  • 7+ years of related work experience in electro-optical instrumentation design and testing. 10 years preferred.
  • Proven track record of successful product development and innovation in relevant fields.

Must have an outstanding work ethic, be self-motivated and have a can do, get it done teamwork / positive attitude!
