Primary purpose :

Tallgrass Energy is currently in need of one Regulatory Affairs Specialist to join our Houston based Capital Projects Team.

This role will report directly to the Director of Environmental permitting, or other Leadership as assigned within the Capital Projects - Environmental & Regulatory Department.

Essential duties and responsibilities :

  • Responsible for the organization, storage, and retention of regulatory and environmental permitting documents.
  • Assist with the development of FERC implementation plan packages, variance requests, responses to agency information requests, and reporting requirements for federal, state, and local agencies for FERC regulated projects.
  • Assist with the development of project resource reports, permit applications, and data request responses for both FERC-regulated and non-regulated projects.
  • Manage regulatory / environmental compliance tracking to ensure that all obligations and permit conditions are achieved.
  • Assist with the management and coordination of internal resources and outside consultants who provide permitting services in accordance with Federal, State and Local requirements.
  • Assist with the development of environmental / regulatory permitting scopes of work for use if project bid packages.

Minimum requirements

Education :

Bachelors or Masters degree in Environmental Engineering, Environmental Science / Policy or related degrees strongly preferred.

Other degrees will be considered if combined with experience in environmental permitting and compliance in the oil and gas industry.

Experience / Specific Knowledge :

  • Minimum of ten (10) years of experience in environmental & regulatory permitting and compliance with demonstrable increase in responsibility and independence.
  • Experience working in the energy transportation industry (oil, gas or electrical transmission).
  • Experience working with state / federal / tribal environmental agencies.

Certifications, Licenses & Registrations :

Must possess and maintain a valid driver's license and a driving record satisfactory to the company and its insurers (for travel).

Competencies, Skills & Abilities :

  • Knowledge of pertinent regulations / programs including (but not limited to) : NGA, CWA, ESA, NRHP, OPA, NPDES, MBTA and NEPA.
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills.
  • Strong problem-solving orientation; experience working in multi-disciplinary teams
  • Willingness to travel to project sites (up to 30% travel anticipated)
  • Familiarity with processing, midstream and terminal construction a plus.
  • Familiarity with working within an independent project team structure with other groups and roles, such as land and engineering is mandatory.
  • Strong time management skills and ability to successfully manage multiple tasks / projects with tight deadlines.
  • Positive and energetic attitude; self-motivated with strong initiative.
  • Detail oriented; resourceful.

Working Conditions :

  • May be required to carry a cell phone and be available to respond during working and non-working hours.
  • The successful candidate will be required to clear a drug screen and a complete background check, including credit report for certain positions, after an offer has been extended and prior to being employed.

Compensation : Compensation ranges are provided in good faith based on what we anticipate when researching wages for this position at the state and national levels.
