The Lead Instructor at CBT, you are the key representative of your Academic Department within the classroom and laboratory environments.
You are expected to embody the values and mission of CBT Technology Institute, driving excellence in teaching, faculty management, and student engagement.
Your role includes teaching, managing program faculty, overseeing academic activities, and ensuring compliance with institutional and accrediting standards.
You will be instrumental in curriculum development, faculty development, and fostering a positive learning environment that aligns with CBT’s strategic goals.
ACADEMIC RESPONSIBILITIES
Responsibilities include, but are not limited to :
- Participate in Curriculum Development Committee meetings to ensure compliance with accrediting agency regulations and the delivery of high-quality, industry-relevant outcomes.
- Lead initiatives in Occupational Advisory Committees to incorporate employer feedback into program improvements.
- Participate in Academic Subcommittees assigned to develop ideas that will positively impact the faculty / student experience.
- Drive the development of NDS programs (if assigned), coordinating with the marketing department to ensure effective student and alumni engagement.
- Oversee the implementation of Faculty Development Plans, ensuring alignment with CBT’s goals and summarizing outcomes annually.
- Monitor each day’s activities in the classroom and or lab via the lesson plans and ensure that they are detailed enough for a substitute to be able to know what to do for any given class.
- Design and review lab assignments to ensure they align with course objectives and prepare students for real-world applications.
- Evaluate and incorporate new editions of course materials and innovative teaching methods into the curriculum.
- Actively participate in campus events such as open houses, orientations, and graduations, representing the academic department.
- Maintain professional development through participation in conferences, workshops, and professional associations, ensuring continuous improvement in teaching quality.
- Maintain membership / participate in activities of professional associations.
- Assist Campus Directors in ensuring overall campus oversight and leadership during evening hours.
- Develop and Review course materials in CANVAS to support program curricula and secure quality assurance.
- Work alongside the Campus Director to present the Academic portion related to Student Learning Outcomes within the Campus Effectiveness plan.
Student Management / Engagement
- Develop and implement strategies to achieve retention goals, collaborating with faculty to create and execute improvement plans.
- Maintain scheduled office hours and implement Student Success Hours to support student needs, ensuring accessibility during both morning and evening hours.
- Provide academic advising and tutoring, with a focus on students with excessive absences or those performing below average.
- Facilitate workplace readiness through coordinated practicum assessments, career development activities, and industry engagement opportunities including workshops, career days, guest speakers, field trips, and / or other methods.
- Organize and lead JumpStart activities to enhance awareness and enrollment in Associate Degree programs.
Faculty :
- Lead faculty assessments to ensure high levels of student engagement and effective lab utilization, recommending improvements to the Director of Academic Operations and Campus Director.
- When needed or required, act as a substitute instructor to include, but not limited to, assigning homework and / or coordinating specific activities to minimize the effects of an instructor’s planned or unplanned absence.
- Collaborate with the Academic Coordinator in faculty hiring, scheduling, and onboarding processes, ensuring alignment with CBT’s educational standards.
- Serve as a mentor and resource for faculty, providing guidance on teaching strategies and professional development based on iMPACT Evaluations and lab / class observations, conducted every 6 months as well as Lab / class observations conducted per term.
- Ensure faculty are trained and developed according to institutional guidelines, conducting regular observations and feedback sessions.
- Promote the effective use of materials and resources in labs, ensuring spaces are well-maintained and organized.
- Conduct regular lab observations and inventory checks to ensure compliance with safety and accreditation standards.
- Assist Campus Leadership in ensuring each faculty member has maintained compliance with professional development and accreditation standards.
- Conduct Programmatic meetings as necessary to align faculty toward GREeN15 and iMPACT initiatives.
- Ensure Check-ins / outs are being conducted to properly assess inventory / equipment are available and accounted for.
- Prepare a Community Resource Plan per semester that will support faculty in adding value to their course.
Lab Safety / Equipment
- Ensure compliance with standards and regulations of accrediting and government agencies.
- Ensure each person (student and faculty) has undergone a lab safety orientation, and has sufficient knowledge, before working in the lab for their safety and the safety of others while in the laboratory.
- Resolve technical problems and ensure remedial actions whenever equipment malfunctions or test systems deviate the subject from the laboratory's established performance specifications.
- Control all lab equipment using tracking systems and update as needed.
- Prepare total inventory report every four months, and / or when requested by the Campus Director
- Assess and recommend repair, replacement, and purchase of new equipment.
- Display proper equipment safety utilization, and ensure policies and procedures are followed according to Company, City, State, and Federal regulations.
- Utilize Lab Manual / Rubric to ensure students are meeting course objectives and acquiring appropriate student learning outcomes.
- Work alongside the Campus Director to ensure the budget is being allocated correctly for Facilities, Maintenance, and Improvements related to Laboratory spaces.
Departmental Support
- Actively contribute to student recruitment efforts through participation in referral campaigns, collaborating with the Campus Director and Marketing / Social Media teams.
- Develop and lead workshops aimed at improving student employability, with a focus on building confidence and career readiness.
- Support enrollment growth by engaging with the Admissions Department to provide program awareness and product knowledge.
- Collaborate with career services and campus leadership to improve student placement outcomes, ensuring graduates are well-prepared for industry roles.
- Work closely with faculty to enhance the hands-on learning experience, providing additional workshops, tutoring, and practical activities."
- Work alongside the internal Marketing department to showcase student life, and program features and create an awareness to the community through various platforms.
EDUCATIONAL / SKILLS REQUIREMENTS
- Associate or Bachelor's degree from a recognized and accredited school preferred
- 3+ years of strong documented industry / program-related experience
- Managerial experience preferred
- Possession of all necessary program certifications.
- 3 + years of teaching experience.
- Ability to work with Microsoft Systems
- Work with LMS platform
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, ABILITIES
- Strong knowledge of laboratory methodologies and industry standards relevant to the program. Proven leadership ability in managing and coordinating multiple projects in a professional lab setting.
- Deep understanding of good laboratory and management practices, with a commitment to continuous improvement.

- Demonstrated ability to innovate and adapt to new technologies and teaching methods, providing leadership in instructional design and delivery.
- Strong judgment and decision-making skills, with the ability to identify and address students' needs proactively
- Expertise in mechanical equipment, maintenance, tools, and materials relevant to the program, with a focus on student learning outcomes.
- Able to demonstrate a working knowledge of the capabilities, goals, and vision of the lab for the respective program.

WORK ENVIRONMENT / PHYSICAL DEMANDS :
The Lead Instructor will operate primarily in an office, classroom, and laboratory environment, with frequent interruptions and varying workflows depending on the time of day and term.
The role requires the ability to lift and / or move up to 50 lbs, with specific vision abilities necessary for lab work, including close and distance vision, hand-eye coordination, and color distinction.
The position involves extended periods of sitting, working at a computer terminal, and using a telephone, as well as frequent standing, walking, stooping, kneeling, crouching, and crawling.
