Teens Lead @ Work (TL@W) is a youth job site that educates, trains, and develops teens between the ages 14-18 in youth organizing, advocacy, and community justice.

Our two main focuses are :

• Training young people to conduct peer-to-peer trainings around working teens' rights and young worker health and safety.
• Providing space and structure for students to build student power in Boston Public Schools in order to win student demands around improving school facilities, mental health support, and community oversight in District decisions.

TL@W’s work includes :

• Training Peer Leaders to educate other teens about how to prevent workplace injury and violence, sexual harassment, and other injustices.
• Bringing youth together with their peers to learn about workplace and societal issues through the lenses of gender, race, and class.
• Supporting young workers' efforts to research and identify issues of concern to them in the workplace and in their community.
• Engaging teens in organizing campaigns to address their concerns and foster them as young labor, social, and environmental justice activists.
• Informing Peer Leaders about how to understand and influence the legislative process.
• Leading workshops for other young people on health, safety, harassment, and violence in the workplace; developing new workshops as needed.
• Organizing with other young people to address widely felt issues such as environmental health hazards in schools, particularly extreme heat and other asthma triggers.
• Conducting research on people, institutions, and events relevant to child labor laws, workers' safety, and social justice.
• Developing relationships with other community groups and youth organizations.
• Working as a team with other Peer Leaders to overcome gender, racial, and cultural differences to form lasting friendships and develop an influential voice.
• Managing all members of a team of up to 5 peer leaders, ensuring timely attendance to events, and relaying logistical information.
• Managing a group chat and sending digital information like flyers, documents, forms, surveys, and links.
• Strengthening peer leaders' knowledge of core MassCOSH curriculum, preparing them for workshops, and helping them complete work tasks.
• Planning and leading day-to-day TL@W programming, including designing activities and running portions of the day.
• Helping to coordinate TL@W campaigns, including public speaking at rallies and community events.
• Creating and overseeing outreach strategies like flyering, phone banking, mass texts, social media, and word of mouth outreach.
• Ensuring peer leaders follow the TL@W Code of Conduct and reporting serious infractions promptly.
• Identifying areas for peer leaders' growth and helping them gain new skills.

Schedule and Compensation :

Peer Leaders will be paid $15 per hour for 25 hours per week ( Monday Friday , 4 : 30pm-6 : 30pm). The start date for the program has not been confirmed, but it should be in late October and run through May 2nd, 2025.

The program is completely in-person and will take place at the MassCOSH office at 42 Charles Street in Fields Corner, Boston .

This position will be supervised by Teens Lead @ Work Director, Liam Quinn and TL@W Associate Trent Jordan.

In order to be considered, applicants must be a Boston resident currently enrolled in a high school, post-secondary education, or GED / HiSET / Alternative Education program.
