The Fire Department provides all risk emergency services, as well as public education programs, fire prevention, and life safety measures to the City's residents.
THE POSITION :
The Fire Battalion Chief receives general direction from the Fire Chief and / or Deputy Fire Chief in the performance of responsible management, technical, and administrative work in commanding and coordinating physical and human resources including emergency operations, training, fire prevention, disaster preparedness, public education, public relations, facility / equipment maintenance;
and other related programs and services. They provide highly technical staff assistance; implement program goals and objectives and oversee and supervise assigned staff.

These duties are a representative example; position assignments may vary depending on the business needs of the department and organization. This position :
- Assumes management responsibility for assigned programs, activities, operations and staff; and serves as Duty Chief for assigned shift.
- Responds to emergency incidents and assumes command of incidents.
- Manages and participates in the development and implementation of programs, goals, objectives, policies, procedures, and department priorities.
- Prepares and maintains a variety of technical reports and records.
- Assists in the supervision of technical and support staff, including employee development and training.
- Participates in the development, justification, and administration of department budget and strategic plan.
- Oversees and participates in preparation of public information materials, and education classes related to department activities.
- Coordinates required training, certifications, and assessments and maintains accurate and up-to-date training records.
- Upholds the values of the organization and has strong customer service orientation.
- Performs other related projects and duties as assigned.
CONDITIONS OF EMPLOYMENT :
- State approved Hazardous Material First Responder Incident Commander certificate by completion of probation.
- Possession of a valid and appropriate Driver License.
- Requires completion of a background investigation to the satisfaction of the City.
