Job Summary
The Assistant Director of Business Development works with the Director of Business Development to oversee marketing, customer service, and community relations activities.
The Assistant Director of Business Development is responsible for achieving the desired utilization of the organization’s continuum of care through the effective application of ethical marketing principles and methods.
As a member of the business development team, the Assistant Director of Business Development is actively involved in discussions related to a wide variety of departmental issues including, but not limited to, strategic planning, potential growth opportunities, future projects, changes in programming / protocols, outreach liaison recruitment and retention, and psychiatric provider recruitment.
The Assistant Director of Business Development is responsible for assisting the Director of Business Development in developing and implementing the facility’s strategic marketing plan, enhancing the facility’s brand / image, and coordinating business development activities.
Job duties include maintaining an active and productive working relationship with internal departments and government, for profit, and nonprofit organizations in the interest of access to behavioral and mental health patient care.
The Assistant Director of Business Development communicates issues or potential problems proactively, especially with the CEO, Director of Business Development, and Director of Admissions / Intake.
Hours are based on departmental and facility needs and may include day, evening and weekend hours, and up to % in and out of state travel during a work week, as directed by the CEO and Director of Business Development.
Qualifications
Education : Bachelor’s degree in business, political science, social work, psychology, education, or nursing required. Masters preferred.
Experience : Must be years of age or over. Prior experience within a mental or behavioral healthcare, education, or hospital setting required.
Demonstrated expertise expected in leadership, organizational communication, referral management, workshop planning, oral and written communication skills, marketing, and community and payor relations.
Demonstration of pre-existing collaborative relationships with local or state governments, physicians, education, medical / mental health professional organizations, and / or hospitals is preferred.
Licensure / Certification : Must possess a valid Driver’s License.
Knowledge : Knowledge of the Wyoming behavioral and mental healthcare marketplace, mental health services funding, and psychiatric treatment and age-specific programming is preferred.
Candidates must possess superior leadership abilities, demonstrate excellent written and oral communication skills, know how to apply marketing principles, and be energetic, flexible, and innovative.
Ability to collect and utilize data in strategic planning and outcomes monitoring is required. Candidates should understand and demonstrate knowledge of the importance of adherence to deadlines, possess teaching or training skills, and be willing and able to travel in and out of state overnight, up to % of the work week.
Must be proficient in the use of Excel, Word, PowerPoint, and Publisher, and able to access, monitor, and utilize data entered in and collected from online corporate databases.
Essential Functions :
Outreach Liaison Management (As directed by the Director of Business Development)
- The Assistant Director of Business Development is fully trained in the UHS model of outreach liaison account management and accountability, and mentors outreach liaisons in the model’s application when working with in and out of state referral sources.
- Works with the Director of Business Development to recruit, screen, and hire outreach liaisons tasked with working with in and out of state referral sources.
- Monitors the performance of business development team members in relation to departmental goals and provides feedback to the Director of Business Development.
- Co-hosts regularly scheduled, agenda-driven business development team meetings that are responsive in content to outreach liaison needs;
invites other appropriate staff to serve as resources.
- Regularly analyzes results of referral development calls; evaluates and prioritizes referral targets and modifies strategies as needed.
- Works with the Director of Business Development to monthly operating reports, inclusive of all required components. Consistently submits accurate, comprehensive reports in a timely manner.
- Adjusts marketing plans to target specific payers and referral sources. Targets specific patient populations needed for bed capacity.
- Works with the Director of Business Development to regularly obtain and effectively analyze and communicate available clinical outcome and patient satisfaction data.
- Conducts periodic market needs analysis, under the direction of the Director of Business Development, to assist in developing new services to proactively meet changing needs of market(s) served.
- Provides feedback to the Director of Business Development regarding competitive trends.
- Maintains a territory or market segment and makes contacts with referral sources weekly while establishing professional relationships with potential and current referral sources.
- Routinely communicates with referral sources regarding satisfaction with treatment at the facility.
- Works with appropriate corporate resources to regularly develop, distribute, obtain, and effectively communicate Referral Source Satisfaction Surveys and resulting feedback.
Market / Program Knowledge
- Develops and maintains comprehensive knowledge of each of the facility’s programs and services, including Inpatient, Residential and Outpatient programs, the assessment process and transportation services.
- Develops and maintains a comprehensive knowledge of the facility’s admission criteria and exclusionary criteria as it applies to inpatient, residential and outpatient programs.
- Develops and maintains an understanding of voluntary and involuntary admissions status and the facility’s procedures regarding processing these admissions.
- Regularly attends in-services and program development meetings held by the clinical staff to remain informed of current program issues and programmatic changes or updates.
- Develops and maintains a current knowledge of general economic and business status of the behavior healthcare market within Wyoming and provides management with relevant information and strategic plans, as appropriate.
- Maintains a general working knowledge of the target markets utilized for referrals, as well as comprehensive knowledge of the status of specific target markets.
Community Relations and Marketing
- Helps the Director of Business Development proactively identify trends and changes in the marketplace and demand for specific programs.
- Effectively utilizes all marketing means and resources, including referral patterns, research and analysis, marketing, advertising, and public relations.
- Participates with The Agency and the Director of Business Development in the conception and dissemination of various referral source campaigns including, but not limited to print, direct mail, collateral, advertising, social media, and web targets.
- Works with the Director of Business Development to implement programs, projects, and activities that enhance the community’s positive perception of the organization and services.
Demonstrates ability to use conferences, seminars, lunch and learns, open houses, community education collaboration, health fairs, etc., as strategic tools.
Works with the Director of Business Development Director to engage facility staff in image-building efforts by effectively identifying and utilizing talents of staff in public relations activities.
Budget
Works with the Director of Business Development to prepare and monitor the annual marketing department budget and develops controls to maximize spend and minimize expenses.
Environmental Conditions : Possible exposure to psychiatric patients who may exhibit violent / aggressive behavior; potential exposure to communicable diseases, blood / body fluids and other hazardous waste.
