Position Summary : The Office of School Health (OSH) is a joint program of the New York City Public Schools (NYCPS) and the Department of Health and Mental Hygiene (DOHMH) responsible for the health of over 1 million school children enrolled in approximately 1,800 public and non-public schools in New York City.
Services to students include case management of chronic health problems, preventive health screening, urgent care, medication administration, preventive counseling, heath education, referral for care and assurance of ongoing effective treatment.
OSH has been the provider of public health services for over 100 years.
OSH manages the health concerns of students that have the potential to impact academic success. Some cases necessitate closer tracking of services, as well as family and school guidance and support in the implementation of those services.
Data analysis and program evaluation is utilized to inform service impact and promote quality improvements to ensure optimal health and academic outcomes.
The Regional Administrative Assistant will provide administrative coordination and support to their assigned office location. Performs related work.

Key Relationships : DOHMH, NYCPS OSH physicians and nurses, the accommodations team, and DOHMH / NYCPS agents; Medical Unit.
Responsibilities
School Based :
- Visits assigned high-risk schools to assist in facilitating accommodation requests and troubleshoot and resolve physician concerns.
- Identifies and implements strategies to correct or eliminate barriers to medical accommodations by analyzing program data, identifying trends, and escalating priority cases.
- Facilitates the resolution of any barriers or concerns with medical accommodations with the appropriate department or bureau.
- Collaborates with DOHMH / NYCPS to support students impacted by challenging social determinants of health.
- Coordinates and facilitates initiatives to promote school-based services and campaigns.
- Organizes and participates in outreach visits to school principals, community physicians / practices and other sources as appropriate.
Office Based :
- Serves as support for field physicians providing school-based services in various school settings.
- Provides administrative and clerical support to OSH physicians in an assigned location.
- Coordinates physician’s monthly and consolidated schedules; updates the schedule as needed, and communicates revision of physician schedules to appropriate staff, Central office, and NYCPS.
- Prepares for monthly regional meetings : agendas, sign in sheets, folders and documents as requested.
- Provides support for school health special projects and events.
- Maintains scheduled medical visits for physicians at assigned schools.
- Manages office inventory of medical equipment and supplies.
- Tracks all medical session conducted in the assigned region.
- Travels Citywide to different program sites or schools as needed.
Central Office Based :
- Participates in ongoing meetings with the medical staff to plan for specific program implementation to ensure sustainability.
- Maintains an updated list of physician contact information, and submits to appropriate departments.
- Supports school-based initiatives, special projects and events as needed.
- Provides support in other field office locations as needed.
Qualification Requirements :
Minimum
- A baccalaureate degree from an accredited college and two (2) years of experience in community work or community centered activities in an area related to the duties described above; or
- High school graduation or equivalent and six (6) years of experience in community work or community centered activities in an area related to the duties as described above; or
- Education and / or experience which is equivalent to 1 or 2 above. However, all candidates must have at least one (1) year of experience as described in 1 above.

- Expert level Microsoft Excel skills and proficiency in Microsoft Office applications.

Salary : $69,844 - $94,279
Internal candidates who are selected for this position and who currently hold comparable or less senior positions within the DOE will not earn less than their current salary.)
