Komatsu North America is a key region for the Komatsu group of manufacturing companies that is globally headquartered out of Tokyo, Japan.

While our main product lines we manufacture are Construction, Forestry and Mining products, we also manufacture but are not limited to other products such as Forklifts, Presses, Plasma cutters, litho lasers to manufacture semi-conductor chips.

Job Purpose

This is a great opportunity for a HR professional who loves challenges and wants to make a positive HR impact and to be fully immersed in the assigned business units.

As an HR Manager (and business partner) you will have the opportunity to partner with the leadership teams (in defined business units) to provide practical and strategic solutions to support business priorities.

You will become a member of a team of HR professionals who execute integrated talent initiatives to assist the business in meeting its’ objectives.

More specifically, you will be involved with strategic planning and workforce design, succession planning, talent acquisition and development, retention, learning and development, performance management, compensation, and employee engagement while proactively addressing and helping to resolve key people issues.

This position is both a strategic and "hands on" role.

This position may be assigned a team of direct reports that may include but are not limited to a HR professional and the Office Services department for the Chicago HQ office.

Travel Requirements

This position will be responsible to travel based on business needs. Travel may include but is not limited to monthly visits to the Shawano / Green Bay location when necessary, visits to the Cartersville / Atlanta location as needed and other locations when there are business needs.

Travel is dependent on HR activities and may fluxuate throughout the year. Must have a valid driver's license, passport preferred.

Job Duties and Responsibilities

  • Actively coach, counsel, and support business function leaders to advise and influence human capital strategies and identify gaps and opportunities that impact business results
  • Provide HR partnership to leaders regarding business planning, performance management, communications, learning and development, workforce design and implementation and change management,
  • Develop short and long-term talent strategies in alignment with the vision and objectives of the business. Proactively identify and manage emerging talent with organizational development initiatives and succession planning for short- and long-term strategies that align with the goals and objectives of the business.
  • Work across multiple operations and actively engage functional expertise of HR Professionals (Talent Development / Management, Talent Acquisition, HRIS, Benefits, HR OPs.

and Inclusion and Diversity) for strategy development and program deployment.

Work in partnership with EHS team and as a safety committee member for the Chicago O'Hare office.

Required Skills

  • Bachelor’s degree in Business Administration, or related field; diploma in Human Resources and / or in-depth experience within a business-facing HR role
  • Progressive HR experience with a minimum of 7-10 years working in a HR Business Partner capacity and coach assigned to multiple business units or groups
  • Certified or be working towards the professional designation a plus
  • Prior "people management" experience with leading a directing a small team is preferred.
  • Experience conducting workplace investigations and risk management assessment
  • Strong relationship management and consulting skills to cultivate positive and effective relationships with regional teams and key stakeholders
  • Outstanding people skills and demonstrated success resolving complex HR issues; a working knowledge of employment standards
  • Advanced communication skills (written and verbal), with the ability to establish trust, sell ideas, and influence others
  • The ability to think and act strategically, an organized problem solver and someone who is adaptable to change
  • Strong computer skills (HRIS, Word, Excel, PowerPoint)
  • Ability to support management and employees in a union environment
  • Must be a self starter and have the ability to work independently
  • Must be able to work onsite regularly in the Chicago O'Hare office (at least 4-5x a week) to establish strong working relationships with your assigned leaders, employees and HR team.
  • Must have a "continuous improvement" mindset which includes being able to accept both positive and constructive feedback so you can continuously grow in your career.

Desired Skills

  • SHRM-CP, PHR, SHRM-SCP, SPHR certification a plus
