Food Safety Role & Responsibility

The incumbent is specifically responsible for ensuring that :

1. Training requirements are defined for all positions related to food safety and quality within his / her area of responsibility.

2. Direct reports are trained to complete work assignments, evaluated for effectiveness and documented, and deemed competent to perform their jobs.

When gaps are identified, immediate corrective action must be taken. This includes retraining, coaching, and / or disciplinary actions - which must be documented.

3. Work assignments are communicated to associates.

4. Where the assistance of external experts is required for the development, implementation, operation or assessment of food safety within his / her area of responsibility, records of agreement or contracts defining the responsibility and authority of the external experts are maintained, as well as records of appropriate education, training, skills and experience.

5. New hire orientation is conducted and a training matrix is developed for each area of responsibility.

6. All elements listed in PROC 7.2 are enforced- not only those outlined above.

As an individual, the incumbent must understand the Food Safety Statement, complete the required training, perform work assignments in accordance with training and display an acceptable level of competency with all Quality Assurance / Safety / Security policies and training requirements.

Areas of food safety training will include, but are not limited to, GMP, Food Safety Plan, Listeria, Food Safety and Quality Statement, FSSC 22000 / Global Food Safety Policy / Food Safety Goals, Visitor / Food / Site Security, Emergency Preparedness, and Bloodborne Pathogens.

Some additional items will include Inbound / Outbound trailer and load inspections, FIFO / FEFO Procedures and Inbound / Outbound Seal Procedure.

The individual must also request additional and / or refresher training if he or she feels that it is needed to effectively perform requirements in specific areas of responsibility.

Summary :

The incumbent will provide overall supervision to ensure that all operational goals are met, including, but not limited to the following : budget expectations, inventory accuracy, order fill percentage, case fill percentage, productivity, and on-time departure.

Job Function Statements - Essential Functions :

Effectively communicate with Production, QA, Scheduling, Purchasing, Transportation,

and Customer Service as needed.

Embrace the philosophy that recognizes that the customer is always first, people are the most

Address performance issues in a timely manner using consistent and company backed

disciplinary methodology.

Provide training to warehouse associates in areas such as SOP's, job specific procedures, and

filling out required documentation correctly.

Monitor and maintain proper rotation of raw product, finished goods, and placement of aged

product.

  • Ensure compliance to SOP's, Housekeeping, and all other FE policies.
  • Ensure compliance to all Sarbanes-Oxley requirements.
  • Maintain a safe work environment by training personnel on safety issues, conducting safety

huddles, completing safety accident and / or incident reports, and recognizing and correcting

unsafe conditions or acts.

Complete and analyze departmental performance measurements. Lead, coordinate and

direct the daily activities of shift personnel engaged in the shipping and receiving of both raw

product and finished goods.

  • Create and maintain work schedules for all warehouse associates.
  • Ensure employees are taking their scheduled breaks / lunches and finishing their shift on

time.

Ensure accurate and timely picking and loading of customer's orders by coordinating efforts

between clerks, selectors, drivers, and carriers.

  • Maintain equipment viability and communicate with appropriate vendors for parts / repair.
  • Responsible for the interviewing and screening of potential warehouse associates in terms of

experience and aptitude with operation's required power equipment.

  • Perform other duties as required or assigned.
  • Regular and reliable attendance is an essential function of this position.

Required Qualifications / Skills :

Ability to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of concrete variables in a fast-paced environment. Ability to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram, or schedule form.

Capable of working in a cold (34 degrees F) and wet environment and be willing to work weekends.

Other Desired Qualifications / Skills :

Proficient with Microsoft Office and AS 400 / PRMS a plus

Bachelor's degree or completed college courses are preferred.

Experience :

6 months related experience

Education / Training :

High school degree required.
