Description of the role :
The Service Technician at Chevrolet of Smithtown is responsible for inspecting, maintaining, and repairing vehicles.
They will identify and diagnose problems, perform routine maintenance tasks, and provide exceptional customer service.
This role requires strong technical skills, attention to detail, and the ability to work independently.
Responsibilities :
- Performing vehicle inspections and diagnostic tests to identify issues
- Conducting routine maintenance tasks such as oil changes, tire rotations, and filter replacements
- Repairing or replacing defective parts and systems
- Conducting necessary repairs according to dealership and manufacturer standards
- Providing accurate and detailed service estimates to customers
- Collaborating with service advisors to ensure excellent customer satisfaction
- Keeping up-to-date with automotive technology and industry trends
Requirements :
- High school diploma or equivalent
- Completion of an automotive technician program or apprenticeship
- Proven experience as a Service Technician or similar role
- Strong knowledge of automotive systems, components, and diagnostic tools
- Ability to operate and use electronic diagnostic equipment
- Excellent problem-solving skills and attention to detail
- Ability to work independently and manage time efficiently
- Effective communication and customer service skills

Responsibilities
Perform work specified on the repair order with efficiency and in accordance with dealership
Test-drive vehicles, and test components and systems, using diagnostic tools and special service equipment
Diagnose, maintain, and repair vehicle automotive systems including engine, transmission, electrical steering, suspension, brakes, air conditioning, etc.
Communicate directly with the Service Advisor so that customers are informed if any additional service is needed.
Provide an estimate of time needed for additional repairs
Execute repairs under warranty to manufacturer specifications
Qualifications
2+ years of Service Technician experience preferred
High school diploma or equivalent, ASE Certification required
B level qualifications, including Diagnostic, Electrical and Engine Repair
Dexterity, requiring a steady hand, excellent hand-eye coordination
Mechanical and troubleshooting skills and ability to operate electronic diagnostic equipment
Excellent customer service skills and basic computer competencies
Positive, friendly attitude, along with an eagerness to improve
Enjoy working in a dynamic environment
Teammate with ability to collaborate with others effectively
Ability to learn new technology, repair and service procedures and specifications
Valid driver's license and clean driving record
