QUALIFICATIONS FOR A DEPUTY DIRECTOR OF ENGINEERING

• Experience as a professional engineer
• Professional engineer certifications
• Knowledge of the principles and practices associated with public works operations, including plan review and construction inspection
• Understanding of the principles and practices associated with the design, construction, and management of roadways, bridges, creeks, sidewalks, trails, storm sewers, sanitary sewers, water mains, and facilities
• Knowledge of engineering principles and practices
• Familiarity with the administration of municipal budgets
• Understanding of relevant federal, state, and local laws, regulations, and policies
• Knowledge of supervisory principles and practices
• Proficiency with computers and job-related software programs
• Familiarity with the Manual of Uniform Traffic Control Devices guidelines
• Skills in planning and implementing public works programs and projects
• Expertise in planning, organizing, directing, and coordinating personnel
• Ability to analyze problems and develop and implement solutions
• Skill in preparing clear and precise administrative reports
• Extensive oral and written communication skills

A DAY IN THE LIFE OF A DEPUTY DIRECTOR OF ENGINEERING

As our municipality's Deputy Director of Engineering, your responsibilities encompass directing plan reviews and overseeing construction inspections for new and ongoing development projects throughout the city.

You manage escrow accounts to ensure compliance and recommend city infrastructure for acceptance and maintenance. In addition to your administrative duties, you collaborate with your team to assign projects, monitor progress, and facilitate the resolution of any obstacles that may arise.

Your role as an engineer also involves acting as a plan reviewer, stormwater management coordinator, or traffic manager as necessary, overseeing related studies and improvements.

Furthermore, you prepare presentations for city officials, review budgets, and ensure that city policies and codes align with industry standards.

Your leadership is integral to maintaining the smooth operation of this dynamic and multifaceted role.

This full-time engineer position with our municipality works Monday through Friday with the occasional evening meetings .
